OT: Amtrak Discounts

Does anyone have any experience with Amtrak? Can you get discounted train fare, as you do with airfare? How or where can you find the discounts? Do the fares change like the airfare does? Travel would be between CT and NC.

I've only taken Amtrak to NYC from RI or CT. They did offer a AAA discount which I believe was 10% off the basic seat fare.

The Orlando Magiccard gives a 20% discount I believe.

The earlier you reserve with Amtrak the lower the fare.

Unless they run a special.

Unless the train turns out to be ½ empty a week out.

Unless the wind blows from the SE at 4:05 p.m. on the first Tuesday following the full moon on K St. NW in Washington DC.

In other words their fares are as unpredicatable as airfares.
