Figured I'd throw this out there.

Do any members have any experience with AAU sports, in particular, baseball? Our 8 year old is playing with an 8 under team this year and I would like to get any feedback on the experience.

Pros, cons, personal experiences. Really any input would be appreciated.

We signed him up due to his interest level has really grown over the past year and his ability is really starting to show. We are concerned about the commitment and toll it may take on him.

We are planning on trying it for a season and see how it goes, then decide from there what to do in the fall.

AAU is ripping Wesley Chapel Athletic Association apart when it comes to baseball. I am not a big fan.

I don't have experience with AAU; but, when my daughter was in elementary school she was into gymnastics. It started out one day a week and grew to 4 days a week plus ballet class and competitions while she was still at the lowest competitive level. Organized athletics can really be major financial and time commitments.

Once you commit, it is hard to draw the line if the child is truly talented and the organization is positively nuturing his/her talents. It's good that you are doing your homework.

Great feedback. Your comment about not knowing where the line is drawn is exactly what we are concerned about. He has had two practices so far and I do like his coach and the way they are teaching the kids. Time will tell I guess.

Thanks for taking the time to comment.
