OT-6 months to fully potty train our little boy... HELP!

Just a comment. My sister and I had babies 2 weeks apart. My niece was "potty trained" at 18 months, but had regular accidents for over a year. I didn't even start my son until he was over three and generally staying dry anyway. He had one accident...that was it.

This is a generational thing. I, personally, subscribe to the "path of least resistance" method of parenting when it comes to most training. I didn't care one bit what anyone else thought...I potty trained him when he was (more than!) ready, and when it was convenient for me.

Do whatever feels right. Want to take a break? Do it! If anyone comments, tell them that you promise not to tell them how to raise their children if they'll return the favor!

I was blessed with a little girl who was literally potty trained in a week at two.

I assumed (like an idiot) that I would be able to do this again with two boys. :rotfl: NOPE.

Nick took about 6 months. He was 2.5 when he was in underwear. We started at two. I had felt like a bit of a failure with that, since I assumed it would be just like training my oldest.. that feeling got even worse when Xander was still wearing diapers at his third birthday.

When Xander turned four... I stopped freaking out and realized, they will be potty trained when they are potty trained. There is no use stressing.

I will say that one of the biggest helps for us was switching to generic baby diapers, no pull ups. Xander especially liked wearing them and quick frankly they were expensive. It was a positive thing when we let them switch from diapers to them, but he didn't want to stop wearing them.

I FINALLY got him to stop peeing in his pants at least during the day a month or so ago. He'll be 5 in the spring.

The only other advice or suggestion I have is to offer an underwear day.. after a week of no accident we had underwear day. we went to the mall just me and the potty trained. we bought two packs of underwear together, had lunch etc.. it was a great motivator with my first two.

Is there someplace that he wants to go, but you don't go. For my DD she wanted to go to Chuck E Cheese. (she has never been, but saw it on TV) DH and I are not fans of those types of places. We told her that it was for kids that are potty trained, we had been working on potty training for a little while with so so progress. The Chuck E Cheese thing worked we are going this weekend. We told her that if she had no accidents for 1 month then we would go. She still is in a pull up at night. She actually been fully trained during the day for over a month and did great while we were at Disney in October. We have just been trying to find a free weekend, she still asked everyday when she gets to go. I hope Chuck E Cheese is what she wants it to be.

Can your husband potty train him? Ds11 was potty trained before he was 28 months old-when dd9 was born. He always wanted to do what his daddy was doing, so he'd go when dh went. He wanted undies just like his daddy, too. He was no problem at all-took a matter of days.

Dd9 was a nightmare-she didn't care where she went!

DS figured out the pee part of potty training well before the poop part.

Here are the three things I did for pee training:
1 -- He would wake up dry in the morning, so that's when we started trying the potty. I figured I knew he'd have to go then, so it was an easy way to be successful.
2 -- We also did underwear with rubber pants over them for a few days to get the wet sensation without me having to worry about pee getting all over my house.
3 -- He liked the idea of standing up to pee, so Daddy showed him how to do that and then he was really proud of himself. Pee was pretty easy.

The poop thing was another story. I didn't want to make too big a deal of it, because I had heard about kids with constipation issues. Pull Ups are great for poop training! DS would pull down the pull up to pee on the potty, but still wanted to use the Pull Up for pooping. I was OK with that. Let me tell you, I would much rather clean up a poopy pull up then poopy underwear! DS did get to the point where he wanted to wear underwear all the time, but he stil had occasional poop accidents. Ugh. Then it would go well for a few weeks, then we'd have a little setback, then it would go well...I think we're finally totally "trained" now, but we'll see! He'll be 4 in February, BTW.

Oh yeah, our Disney trip in November was great, but it did cause some setbacks in the potty department. Again, peeing was fine, but DS gets weird about pooping on different potties. He didn't eat or poop much all week and I think it was because he didn't want to poop on a strange toilet! What is it with men and strange toilets? :headache:
