So DS8 wakes up this morning, and for some reason decides he's curious about powdered sugar, picks up the bag, and then drops it all over the kitchen floor. DD5 and DD11 are nice enough to help him start cleaning up. At this point, I don't have any inkling of what's going on....I'm happily changing a diaper when I hear frantic whispering and one of them running upstairs and slamming a door (that was DS who thought he was going to get into trouble).

Well, the sisters are left cleaning up the mess. First they try wet towels. This doesn't work. Then they decide they need to sweep it up instead. Bless their hearts, I really am glad they tried to help, but now my kitchen floor has a nice sugar glaze on it, with 3 sets of footprints crisscrossing it. Make that 4 - the dog walked through it too!

I get DS to come down - his mess, his responsibility, right? So we figure mopping is just about the only way this is coming up. Well, he mopped once, and spread the glaze nice and evenly over the area, and I've mopped 4 more times and IT'S STILL STICKY!!!!! I know this is going to be an all day event, but sheesh, I really was hoping for better plans for my Sunday! :headache:

Calgon, take me away!

mini rant over - thanks for listening! :flower3:

LOL, im sorry but I just had to laugh at that. See if I can make you laugh....when DD6 was about 2 she found a bag of flour in my pantry and she sneaks in her room with a spoon and spoons every single grain of flour out of that bag. All over her bed, carpet, self, and toys. Oh and she was rubbing in on her skin like lotion......it took me weeks to get all the flour out of that room!!!

When DS2 was about 16 months old he found a plastic spoon and a box of baking soda at my "clean as a wistle" mother in law's house and spreads it all over the kitchen. needless to say that day I was cleaning up baking soda all day long.....

We all go through it. just laugh it off and look forward to the next time.....when its corn syrup....or HONEY!!! LOL.

:rotfl2: At least this was MY house and not MIL's! I know things like this happen, and with a 6month old, I know they will happen for many years to come (apparently at LEAST 8!), but it sure is frustrating when they do! Not that I can say I'm much better - there was that pot of shrimp, still in the shrimp boil water, that spilled, and went under the fridge......we smelled that for weeks!

BLAH!!! YOU WIN!!!! LOL!!!!!:lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:

Oh my, I have to say that as far as I can remember, we have never had anything like that happen unless you count the time someone put Dawn detergent in the dishwasher and turned it on. We had bubbles everywhere. :rotfl2:

oh boy, how i can relate to this! several years ago, DD was about 3, and i was engrossed in a political debate with a friend in CA via msn messenger (very smart guy, but he was WRONG, lol, but i digress) DD was happily playing in her room. ok, well, she'd just become potty trained, so i was so proud when i heard her go to the bathroom. about 10-15 minutes later, i hear her go again, but decide not to turn around and see what's up (bathroom in hallway on other side of living room) b/c i didn't want to make her self-conscious. about 15 minutes later, i go in her room to check on her and i slid all the way across her room and smacked into the wall! her two trips to the bathroom were to get a full bottle of shampoo and a full bottle of baby wash to smear all over her bedroom floor (pergo laminate)!!! i must've mopped that floor a dozen times! my fault, i should've checked on her when i heard her go the bathroom the 2nd time, lol, i learned that day that no matter how well a child plays by themselves, they should be checked on every few minutes (DD is my first and only-i've learned as i go). she was so proud of herself, lol, i can't help but laugh about it now.

ohhh, sister, I feel your pain!

When DS was 4 and the twins were 2, I somehow managed to spend the entire day cleaning my kitchen. You know the kind of cleaning I mean. All the light fixtures get cleaned, the floor under the appliances gets cleaned, the cabnets get cleaned, the pantry gets cleaned, the baseboard gets cleaned.. you know what I mean. It felt great! Took me all day with three little ones but boy, did that kitchen shine!

I go to preheat the oven for dinner and the bottom heating element catches on fire :scared1: Nothing to do but grab the fire extinguisher. Now for those of you who've used a kitchen fire extinguisher, you know what happens, for those who don't ..... Please, by all means, let me explain...

They are filled with a powder finer than baby powder. And, as the oven was hot, and heat rises, I had a fine powder over MY ENTIRE KITCHEN!! every cravice, every surface, covered in this fine powder and.... no dinner for three hungry children.

I was up until almost 2am cleaning up that mess, no matter how many times I mopped, it would dry, and I could still feel the powder :sad2:

Good luck with your sticky floors! Since misery loves company, here's my story...

Right before DD6 turned two, she was really starting to fight nap time. Well, I was 7 months pregnant, and I still NEEDED her to take a nap. ;) I let her cry for a few minutes, then she got quiet, so I laid down for a while. Fast forward to two hours later, when I got her out of bed. She had filled her diaper and then proceeded to "fingerpaint." There was poop on the wall, crib, sheets, some books and toys in the crib, carpet, and from head to toe on DD! The worst part is that she did all that and then laid down in it and fell asleep. :scared1: I had to give DD a shower and spend the rest of the afternoon scrubbing and doing laundry.

it is sugar, so remember to use really hot water when you mop, and if you let one drop of water to dry on the floor it will be sugar water and leave sugar behind.

My latest is a LARGE container of baby powder that my little princess (7) decided during christmas break to use to make her room look like it had snowed inside like it had outside. She did a fairly good job, too bad it wasn't a set for a Christmas program. :lmao:

:rotfl: I'm reading all of the posts and seeing what I have to look forward to. :) Thanks for the giggles!

:rotfl2: some good stories, I guess I was lucky with mine, my DS 3 was in the tub last week playing away and got ahold of his shampoo, he wanted to make more bubbles..... a least I got a clean tub out of it but had to buy a new bottle of shampoo :rotfl:

Thanks for all the funny stories! What would we do without kids? What would we do with all the free time????

I'm off one more time. I'm optimistic though that this will be the last time....

bless your heart, lol, we've all been there. i hope the floor is clean now. :grouphug:

Don't feel bad. Sticky is definitely better than smelly :sad2: When I was in the bathroom and DS #3 was little he decided he was thirsty I told him he'd have to wait till I was out. Apparently I was taking too long so he went and got out the brand new gallon of milk which he then proceeded to drop. "It made such a pretty sound" as it gurgled out of the jug and "the pattern on the floor was so neat" :rotfl: So was the mess as it flowed through the linoleum and the floorboard to the basement and under the fridge and the stove and the dishwasher. Yep, the entire gallon was on the floor before I discovered the mess. It took so long to clean. And I didn't realize it had gone down thru the floor until a couple of hours later when I went to do laundry and see this stuff dripping off the rafters. Argh! I had to start cleaning again . And every so often on a really hot day I still get a whiff of milk :rolleyes1.

This morning I learned the best way to get a bottle of chocolate syrup that has spilled all over the inside of the fridge is to use just plain hot water. I must have spent well over an hour trying to scoop it up by hand and using power dissolver before realizing hot water would dissolve the mess. At least my fridge is sparkling clean now!

So I finally broke down, got a bucket of hot water, and hand scrubbed the floor and wiped it with dry towels until all the sticky went away. :goodvibes to teachallday who recommended this!

One of the kids dropped a fruit roll up type snack on the floor this afternoon. Normally it would come back with dirt, cobwebs, crumbs, dog hair.....Not Today! I could proudly say Go Right Ahead! I just cleaned the floor! This saga has ended; now I just wait for the next one to begin! ;)

Then there was the time DH talked me into going to bed with him when he was working 11 pm to 7 am my then 3 yr old had gotten up got out a 10 lb bag of flour an dumped it all over the house except my bedroom. DH heard me scream got up to see what the problem was said I'LL CLEAN IT UP it was my idea for you to go back to bed. He went got the hoover I picked up the hoover showed him what he had going thru the hoover YEP big dust cloud of flour.

Not long after that the same 3 yr old got up in middle of night got about 20 packs of grape kool aid an water an proceded to paint my NEW living room furniture an carpet.

OH the same child after she was potty trained an did not like naps would poop pants an smear poop all over wall her bed an clean clothes in her dresser at nap time. This went on for weeks till 1 day I cleaned up the mess did not say anything to DD or punish her let her think she had won.... NO it stopped that day an I was the winner cause I no longer had to clean up her mess an do extra laundry.

Fastforward about 13 yrs this same child did not want to do dishes by hand while I was out for the day so she decided to use the dishwasher that had not been working properly hadn't been used in months, she discovers after it it loaded that there is no dishwasher detergent uses liquid dish soap of course she has all this foam coming out from dishwasher. DD cleaned up the foam but then the water would not drain from dishwasher the pump was now out. WHAT DOES SHE DO????

She left the water in dishwasher took the dishes out washed them put them away. A few days later I notice the top of dishwasher door is dirty which I needed to clean at least weekly.

I opened the dishwasher an smelled something an found water this is when I found out what happened...... DD thought it would be so long before I found the water that she could blame it on her 3 yr old sister. By this time DD is a senior in high school in the marching band working 2 part time jobs she was BUSY but she washed every dish I dirtied for the next year till she went off to college.

Truth be told little kids little problems yeah they make messes sometimes takes awhile to clean them up. Big kids big problems sometimes they not so easy to clean up or even fix. One DD moved out of house moved in with boyfriend only to call from hospital she needed to come back home when she got out of hospital the boy had almost killed her. Took us years to clean up that mess an to get the boy to leave us an DD alone. He went to jail more times than I can remember over it.

I'll stop now none of you needs to hear what we been thru with so called legal aged children I'll just say mine in their early 20's was like 2 yr olds with a drivers license.....the youngest at 18 is like an 18 month old with a drivers license. I'll take the little kid messes any day!

Oh my-oh-my, I could literally write a book. Like when my oldest (DS7) was around 9 mo I was changing his poopy diaper at work (I was one of the lucky ones who got to take him to work with me) when the phone rang. I turned to answer it - I had managed to get the dirty off and clean one on but the dirty was still there waiting to be thrown away. So as I'm finishing up the call (a customer of course) I turn around to see him EATING what looked like a candy bar. NOPE, not a candy bar! After one bite he figured out pretty quick it wasn't a candy bar either. Oh my lord, that was nasty!

Or the time he got ahold of dh shaving cream and sprayed it allllllll over our bed, floor, bedside tables...oh just everywhere. I walked in the him sitting in the middle of it, on my bed, covered head to toe in the stuff just beaming at me. What did I do first? Why, took a picture of course! That's one of my most cherished ones next to him being caught red handed teepeeing the entire house with toilet paper. It was e-v-e-r-y-w-h-e-r-e! And the look I captured was wide mouthed elation while he looks as if he's about to do a cartwheel. My aunt has this one framed next to the toilet paper ring in her bathroom. When you sit, you're staring at my wide eyed heathen, surrounded by mounds and mounds and strings and strings of toilet paper, as far as the eye could see. He had gone through all the rolls in the linen closet you see.

Also found out online how to get vaseline out of little girls long white-blond hair (dd3 of course). It's dawn and baking soda btw...

Or hey! How about the time I heard wailing coming from my bedroom only to open the door to my poor kitty running around howling and hissing and my dd3 screaming. Seems kitty-kitty needed some lotion so dd3 rubbed mentholatum all over the poor cat then proceeded to rub it in her hair and eyes. :scared1: Ahhh...good times...like the time dd5 had to go to the pedi (twice mind you) to get beads pulled out of his nostrils. You know those white ones with the letter on them you string onto kids crafts. Yeah, one up each. I managed to get one out but the other...not so lucky.

:rotfl::rotfl::lmao::lmao::rotfl2:
