Ot - 407 etr

Hello ... we occasionally use the 407 when travelling - maybe a half dozen times a year or so ... and wondered if it worth it to get ourselves a transponder. I have searched their website and either I am looking at the price or it just isn't listed until you put all your info in. I can find a lease rate (2.50 a month or 21.50 for the year) but no indication of cost to buy one. Does anyone know how much they are? Are they worth it? I am thinking it may not be worth it but dh thought we should look into it!

Hi Kerri, I don't believe you can buy, just lease unfortunately. But if you even use it once a month, it's worth it since the non-transponder fee is quite high per trip.

I use it about 6-7 times a year without a transponder. I think the no transponder fee is about $2 per trip. So you have to work it out as to which way is better for you.

If you do not have a transponder, 407 ETR charges you an additional $3.30 per trip. In addition, they charge you $2.50 per month account fee, if you use the highway during the month. To avoid these charges you must pay a $21.50 annual lease payment. So, if you take the 407 more than a few times per year, it is less expensive to pay the annual lease fee, and get a transponder.
