My doc is going to put me on osteoporosis medication when I go back in about a month or so. Because I am on acid reflux medication she said she cannot give me oral medication. She mentioned nasal medication. Has anyone had any experience with any osteoporosis meds, particularly nasal meds? I am one who does not like to take medications and I am concerned about side effects. Just wondering if anyone can give me any insight. Thanks.

Google the medication and see what comes up. I know that there are a lot of side effects associated with these medications. I was on Actonel, but I stopped it.

My grandma has been on Forteo (an injection) that has completely reversed her osteoperosis (now considered osteopenia as per bone scans).

It might be something to look into.

I have it, too. I have refused to take the medications also. I have a hiatal hernia and acid reflux. I am VERY leery of medications and try all alternatives. I stopped my bone loss and even had a slight reversal by changing my diet (added lots of calcium), weight bearing exercise, etc.

If you are serious about NOT taking meds (because any medication may fix one problem but can create others) then thoroughly research bone loss and make the changes necessary.

I will do that because I really don't want to take the meds for it. If you have any suggestions, please feel free to PM me or just post it here. Thanks so much! Glad to know I'm not the only one who doesn't want to take meds. I do take 1,000 mg of calcium a day but I think I need more. Also started taking extra Vitamin D. I need to work on the weight-bearing exercise though.

I have had success with "Citracal Plus Bone Density Builder". It has calcium and vitamin D plus Genistein. It's sold over the counter with the other vitamins. I couldn't take Boniva because of acid reflux. So I tried this and have had improvement. If I didn't have improvement my drs. were considering Reclast, which is given intravenously.

My boss has had the Reclast IV the last few years, but can't take it again. Each time she did, she had jaw infections develop. Her Dr has finally agreed with her it's from the Reclast and she shouldn't take again. If you listen to the ads for any of the meds it mentions jaw problems as a possible side effect, so watch for any problems.
