Hi all,

I am a busy bee on the boards today - sorry if this is a bit random, but wondered if you could help me with something health-related...

My Mum's been having problems with a few of her joints for a while (particularly her neck, hands and now her hip). She went to the Drs today who told her that it was most likely Osteoarthritis. She suspected this as her older Sister also has it, but was a bit upset to hear it confirmed as she's only 56. Unfortunately I think she sees it as getting old :sad2: I've told her she's been getting old for years :lmao: (aren't I a caring daughter ).

Anyway, the Dr has told her to take painkillers when necessary and to try Glucosamine supplements to aid flexibility etc. She's also got a wheat bag to ease the pain in her neck and goes for physio on her neck as and when needed.

Just wondered really if any Disser's had similar problems and had experience of any treatments/ tablets/ supplements/ creams etc to alleviate the symptoms. I've been Googling, but just wondered what works for others.

Thanks a lot for your help, I know my Mum would appreciate any recommendations :thumbsup2

DH has Osteoarthritis in his wrist after a motor bike accident that caused a complicated fracture. He swears by Glucosamine and his magnetic bracelet.

I was diagnosed with it in my facet joints which control your back movement a few months ago i was only 44 i also have spondalitus in my lower spine so i would be interested in the comments too. I try not to take pain killers unless i need to.

Sorry to hear that - thanks for the suggestions. Do you mind me asking what dosage of Glucosamine your DH takes? I've heard 1500mg/day is the usual.??

Very sorry to hear of your problems - I hope someone can suggest something which would help relieve your symptoms

I just checked the bottle and his Glucosamine tablets are 1000mg and he takes one a day.

Thanks so much for the info. Will have a look around at what's available then :thumbsup2

I take Arthrotec tabs (on prescription) they help, they contain diclofenac sodium, i also take 1000mg glucosamine, cod liver, evening primrose and omega 6, (dh says you don't have to take cl oil as well as o6 but i do lol!)
I also use Volterol emulgel (also on prescription but available in chemists) I ger pain killers on prescription too but only take them when it's bad, doc has mentioned using a tens machine, not sure if you have heard of this? They'r available in chemists like Boots but they can be expensive. Will let you know how well it works when i finaly get around to buying one ;)
I'm 42, have arthritis in hips, wrists, fingers elbows etc... falling to pieces haha!

Good luck to your mom, hope she gets some relief soon :)
