never been as I have never gotten ressies ay a hotel far enough in advance...
So who can fill me in on the tricks and tips of a successful weekend? I prefer a hotel over dorm or camping...but if anyone has been, please fill me in ...DS has been asking to go for 4-5 years now...guess we better go before he is in college!

We go every year to the EAA. We stay in Waupaca, which is 50 minutes north of Oshkosh.

Go to the EAA site. There is a list of hotels/motels/college dorms/houses for rent during the EAA. It will give you some ideas.

Have fun!
snels:)

My brother in law goes yearly but he camps - about 1 mile away from the show - he takes his bicycle to ride back and forth - to avoid the traffic....he basically parks his truck, sets up his camp site (with other friends) and doesn't touch the truck again until its time to leave.

With a year to plan you will have a great time!

My S is working in OshKosh right now. He actually lives very close to the airport, he's going to try to make it to the airshow this year.

We moved him in last year during the airshow. It was a little crazy as we could hear the planes taking off and landing and drive bombing and explosions going off! Thankfully we will be nowhere near OshKosh this year. The airshow does look like fun though.

Anyways, as you know we could not find anyplace to stay in OshKosh, we stayed in Green Bay. I don't think we could even find anything in Appleton either but I could be wrong. We didn't even look for a hotel until the last minute and were able to find plenty in Green Bay. I think it was an hour or so to get there.

There are not a lot of nice hotels in OshKosh to be honest. We went to visit my S in the fall and had trouble finding anything very nice but I could be wrong. I know that there is a Hilton Garden Inn right by the airport but I am sure that it is booked with officials during the airshow. There is also a Super 8 by the airport and it looked just ok.

My husband is there right now working the Air Show with Garmin. They rent houses. I told him we wanted to go next year since it falls on DS birthday and he said he would get a room and he said we need to book one year in advance. So, we will be making reservations for next year. Can't wait! My DS is going to love it!

Two summers ago we were visiting family in Appleton and happened to be driving through OshKosh during this event. Oh my goodness! It seemed huge.

thanks all, I have checked out the EAA site each year, I can get a list of hotels, but not really insider info, you know? I figured traffic was going to be a nightmare, maybe DH will camp with DS...not sure, we have a tent but I have never used it, lol...and don't plan to...I understand that being a week long event action is happening all the time, DS is after the fighter jets, F-22'S etc. We always hit the Chicago air/water show which has the thrills, but we have a conflict this year so more pressure on getting to EAA next year. For those who have gone, do you need 2 days or is 1 enough? Trying to figurewhat to budget , the change jar is going to be put to use for sure.
