OSHA Releases Pics From Fatal Monorail Crash

These pictures are horrible and to think that the damage was done while the train was only moving 15 mph.

I suppose these trains are so old now that they were built before engineers had even considered implementing any kind of crash structures like modern cars etc have to have.

No idea if modern trains (or monorails) have crash protection or not :confused3

I doubt modern ones have any sort of crash protection systems. They are meant to be light, fast moving modes of transportation, and not meant to be coming into "traffic" with other modes of transportation. Looks as if they are made of fiberglass, which is extremely breakable but also light to help facilitate faster moving and less weight on the beams.

Yes, they do - Collision posts and anticlimbers. This is not just modern locomotives but even on equipment 50-60 years or older.

An 'anticlimber' literally prevents one car (or locomotive, monorail, etc.) from riding up on top of another (and thus crushing the cab) in the event of a head-on collision.
