I've seen multiple posts that Disney shows the Oscars on the Cruise ships.

Some posts have said they are played on the funnel Vision, others have said they were played in the main theater. Two questions:

1) If they played in the Main Theater, how well attended were they? Did you have to get there early to get a seat?

2) Did they also play on the stateroom TVs?

Thanks in advance!

Depends on the length of the cruise, and the satellite coverage if it will be shown at all. On short cruises, you won't see it in the Walt Disney Theater because the normal show will likely be going on.
I don't think it will be on in the staterooms as likely a result of broadcast licenses.

Thanks! We're on the Fantasy and it's our second of seven nights. I'm hoping they show it in the Walt Disney Theater. Thanks for the tip on the broadcast licensing, I hadn't thought about that point.

On the current Fantasy Eastern, Day 2 is Aladdin in the WDW Theater at 8:30, so I would guess it will not be shown there. Depending on satellite coverage, they may be able to pick up the international broadcast, but I have not seen anything other than sporting events shown. You can try calling DCL to see.

Typically the second night of most cruises is formal night. There's a specific show in the Walt Disney Theater for those nights.

I wouldn't expect the Oscars to show while onboard. At least not live. Maybe a recorded/edited broadcast after the fact.

The last time we were onboard during the Oscars, they had a nice viewing party down in La Piazza/O'Gills (sorry, can't remember which) They had trivia and other contests running while it was playing. I think it was on delay (it was a slightly abbreviated version, but mostly intact) It was good fun, and we even won a prize.

It was not. We came in late (2nd dinner seating) but were able to still get a table for 2.

It almost certainly will be in the staterooms, since the Oscars is on ABC, and ABC is one of the networks carried in the staterooms as standard practice. As far as the licensing goes, note that Disney owns ABC. In fact, I've watched the Oscars from a stateroom before (the Walt Disney suite, no less).

The Fantasy didn't show the Golden Globes anywhere on the ship during our 7 day Western Caribbean this past January, my wife was bummed.

Great to hear the contrary. My previous statement about broadcast licenses generally relates to sports and my experience with showing sports in a sports bar.

This was our experience as well. Not overly crowded and they did some trivia during commercial breaks.

Thanks for the input everyone! I finally just called Disney and waited the 15+ minutes and the CM confirmed that it would be showing, but there was a note for guests to check the Navigator for details. We plan to take a nap at 3PM after our Mixology class and get dinner at Cabanas. If they show it in the room we'll opt for that, but keep in mind we can go see it somewhere public as well.
