Osborne Family Lights

Am I right that the lights are being lit at 6PM? And does anyone know what times crowds to see them have started to gather?

Yes- the lights are turned on at 6PM. I am not sure about the crowd level at that time because we go after Fantasmic.

Not sure what time crowds start gathering, but expect the street to be MOBBED when the switch is flipped. We made the mistake of showing up right at 6:00 once. Never again! The lights stay on for an hour after park closing, so this year I'm waiting till about 15 minutes before closing before I venture to that area.

We tried to get back on the streets to watch them flip the switch last year. We arrived about 30 minutes before, and it was so crowded back there, that we couldnt even get TO the main street. The street was filled, and the rest of us had to stand behind a barrier and wait. After they flipped the switch and the lights came on ( we were first behind the barrier so we could see one section as they were turned on) we then had to wait until the people started moving down the street until they would let the rest of us go. So.. thats the last time we will attempt THAT!! It was much better wandering over after Fantasmic!

Crowds develop as early as an hour or so but don't feel you have to line up for it like you do for Fantasmic!

Well that's the thing! We're not going to line up for Fantasmic because we're meeting with a private group at a roped off section at 6:30 PM. We'll also finish an early dinner at about 5:30 PM so we have about 1 hour to play with. We don't have to do any rides because we have a whole other day devoted to that, so I was wondering what time the crowds for the Osborne Family lights begin to form because it would be nice to see them lit.

The funny thing is we'll spend the rest of the week avoiding crowds, but for this event it might be fun to be near the front. Of course I'm assuming 30 minutes is time enough to enjoy the lights and get to the rope drop for Fantasmic.

Unless things are significantly different with the lights on the Streets of America instead of the backstage tour street, 30 minutes is pushing it through the lights. Especially with the early crowd. Reading past comments, most folks take an hour to go through. It takes that long to really soak it up and see everything. I guess in 30 minutes you could breaze through and see it, but not really get into it.

Wow! This is sounding like a good idea, but we'll clearly have to make our way through dinner at the Brown Derby (one of our favorites) more swiftly than we planned.

No grapefruit cake for us this year!
