It might give some of the 9-11 victims families a sense of justice if he were really to be dead. I think Al Queda would rather he died a martyr than in some cave from typhoid. Makes better copy for recruitment.

It's symbolic, just as Stalingrad was.

For that reason, I feel that the bad guys will lie over Osama's health, make him seem invulnerable etc - if he falls, the face of the jihad will fall too.

Though as you say, all that would happen would be a new leader stepping up etc.
