Ortho Reatiners: Trutain vs Hawley

opps! I meant retainers . DD can get her braces off once we schedule an appointment

These are the two option dd has. She can choose either one because its included in the price we paid for the braces .
Trutain is $150 these are done in the office. same day
Hawleys are $190 these are sent out to be made

The ortho doesnt do permanant retainers because is can cause bone loss if patient doesnt floss

I would love some input if you or your childrent have worn either one mentioned. Please tell me the good and the bad. Thanks inadvance

BTW- i was told the trutain are a lil more delicate

My daughter has both. The clear, plastic one was included and my dad, a dentist, took impressions and sent them to a lab to make a hawley. She prefers the clear plastic ones. The hawley is in case of emergency.
FYI- my dads lab made the Hawley for $40. (I imagine if he did lots of ortho with them, it would be even cheaper) Ortho wanted $300.
The clear plastic one made in a lab, has maybe $5 worth of material and they charged me $180 for just the top when her friends dog ate it.
The markup is crazy!!!!

Mark up is insane! I just called the ortho and asked about appointment times. And asked about the retainers since the receptionist has the clear trays. She said both are good but the tray is more delicate and life span is about 2 years. The hawley wire one is life time and more durable. Luckily Dd loves her braces and doesnt want to take them off so she wants the hawleys wire retainer. Hope she doesnt lose it or it will cost another $190 to replace it

Dd got her retainers. She said the bottom one is bothering her like cutting her gum so need to call Ortho. I was told if retainer is list or broken its $198 each!!!!
