I am unsure where to post these questions, so hopefully this is the right place.
We currently arrive on January 1 for WDW. I am thinking of moving the flights ahead one day and coming down early on NYE, but staying at a Disney Springs resort to save some money that night and then head over to Disney Springs if we feel like it.
I have been to Disney World for both Christmas and New Year’s Eve, and am familiar with the crowds and traffic for that area. Will it be as bad to travel from the airport to a Disney Springs resort that day? I’m not familiar with general Florida traffic and I don’t want to sit for hours in an Uber or shuttle trying to get to a Hotel that’s 20 minutes away. I love the idea of being able to see the fireworks from the balcony and/or walk over to Disney Springs which I’ve never done. I also know that Disney Springs will be crowded too but at least we would have that choice.

I would greatly appreciate any experience or thoughts with the overall Florida traffic midday on NYE, and whether there are any shortcuts etc, the drivers are familiar with that they would take to avoid it.

During the morning or early afternoon, it shouldn’t be any busier than the rest of the holiday week. It starts getting busier in the late afternoon into the evening as people head out to whatever activity they are attending that night. If you are arriving at the airport early in the day, you should be okay.

That is what I was hoping would be the case – that people would be getting ready for their evening plans. I just wasn’t sure if the Disney World traffic coming from all around would heavily impact.

Just to be clear you said you are arriving January 1st which means NYE (aka December 31st) has passed already
