Orlando Theme Parks Hurricane Update Thread (Direct list of closures related to Disney on page 10)

It appears Orlando won't get hit as bad as it was originally supposed to. Cape Canaveral, Daytona Beach, and other places won't fair so lucky though. This storm is still passing through so it ain't over yet.

We got a message on the resort phone to stay in the room until further notice. They are still keeping things like the food court and restaurants closed for the time being. I'm still seeing people walk by anyway. It doesn't look too bad out there so hopefully they will open up the lobby areas (CSR) later today.

Yep, just follow directions and everything should be fine. I have seen plenty of reports of people outside as if it's a normal day but like you said people are supposed to stay in rooms until further notice. I would imagine the resorts should open back up to full service lasted today.

I went outside for a bit to take a video for my boyfriend and saw a woman dragging two little ones around. Still a bad idea. They have been pretty good about sending voice messages once they made the call to close. I feel they probably should've made the call a little sooner though.

I apologize if this was already mentioned further back in this thread but I am curious what the preparation was for food that guests could have in their room. I guess they just stocked up from the gift shop or quick service before things closed down?

Daytona Beach is getting hammered right now. Cape Canaveral also got hit hard. Big question is did the port or space center suffer any damage?

Yep it seems like they all rushed gift shops and QS locations... Image is from twitter: https://mobile.twitter.com/kevinmmcgrath/status/784155922377482241

Yes that's exactly what happened. They offered a "box lunch" for $13 which only included a drink if you were on the dining plan. Lines were still very long for these boxes at CSR and the quick service outlets as well as the main gift shop. I watched people with pizza boxes and large bags full of food walking by last night.

Disney resorts do have food courts and food options open however Disney has not given the all clear to leave the rooms. People are leaving anyways of course.

Orlando International remains closed.

Disney is sending out messages to CMs asking if they might be able to come in for the afternoon. This matches up with what I've heard about maybe opening a park today.

Legoland will remain closed.

Characters are out in most resorts meeting with guests and keeping them occupied.

Port Canaveral is stil seeing affects from the storm and hasn't been able to assess the situation yet.

Orlando and surrounding areas are now in a tropical storm warning/watch, and an announcement about the Orange County curfew is expected this afternoon.

oh my gawd! I just realized that this is our usual week for Disney! (we're going in November after my father's kemo is done) we could have been there right now! :scared: stay safe everyone!

Ha! Us too... This is the first time that we haven't been down there at this time since 2009. We're expecting a new addition to the family in a few weeks, so we pushed the usual trip off until Christmas. Our son Matthew is getting a bit of a kick out of the storm "named after him" though.

HURRICANE MATTHEW UPDATE:
For the most part, the effect(s) of Hurricane Matthew in the Western Orlando area was undewhelming. Yes, there was a great deal of overnight wind and rain, but very little damage AWAY FROM the East Coast.
.
We did dodge a bullet.
.
We took precautions like filling a couple of picnic thermos jugs with water, and we took in some yard/patio equipment, but we had no adverse effects. At 12:30pm, Friday, the sun has started to come out, there is a light rain, and is it pretty windy. Other than that, the Westside of Orlando has little evidence of a hurricane. We hope that other neighborhoods and those folks along the Florida East Coast and those folks toward GA-SC-NC suffer as little as we have. Saturday is already forecasted as partly cloudy and mid-80's.

Parks will remain closed today.

All four parks will open at 8AM tomorrow. AK has early EMH at 7AM.

I am sure Disney would love to get a park or two open today to get more ticket sales, etc but I think this makes sense - just get everything fully ready to go tomorrow rather than try to get CMs in and have a rush job, etc

They couldn't open the parks now if they wanted to due to the curfew in place until tomorrow morning. If that is lifted, that'd be another story...

Thanks for the update.
We're supposed to head home tomorrow. I'll have to contact Disney to see if we can get a refund on our last day of park passes.
