I am ready to scream....! Help me find a place to stay....please

My 2 daughters have a dance competition in July held in downtown Orlando (Bob Carr Performing Arts Center). Oldest daughters boyfriend will be with us so I need more than just a hotel room...Our family of 5 and another family of 5 have thought about a vacation home rental....my question is WHERE ? I'm not that familiar with Orlando so I don't know what areas to look at ?
What is close to downtown or maybe Universal Studios ? I have searched and searched with no luck..ughhhh :headache:
We are not doing Disney this trip, just Universal . Trip planned is 5 days, July 15 - 20.
Perfer a two bedroom "something" for just my family but will consider the two family thing if the price is right !

Thank in advance !!!

There won't be any vacation homes in that area. The closest are in Kissimmee. Here's a map to show you where they are.

Given the area you will be traveling (Bob Carr downtown to US/IOA) your best bet will be to go for an Embassy Suites.

When traveling to and from Bob Carr (especially if at night) keep ALERT. Do NOT talk to anyone who may approach you on the street. Just keep moving to and from your car. Use all the "visiting the big city" rules your mother taught you. :)

:scared1: Now I'm scared, lol....Is downtown that bad?

Its not that bad, its just simply a downtown metropolitian area. And as with such, there is a downside. The embassy suites in downtown is in a great area, and I would feel totally safe there. I believe they still have the "Limo" bus service downtown which makes a loop to the Bob Carr area and back, and there used to be a stop on the corner in front of the Embassy Suites. You may want to check on that with the hotel, however, as its been a few years since I lived there. Also check out the Grand Bohemian hotel as well. Not sure that it will fit your needs given the number in your party, but since they used to cut my paycheck I have to make a plug:)
