Anyone been to one of the Magic basketball games? If so, would you recommend the experience? Any tips?

Julie

I've been several times, Julie, and always find it good fun. There is so much more than just the game to enjoy. Tickets shouldn't be hard to come by just now (the Magic are really struggling) and there isn't really a bad seat in the house, price-wise. Try to arrive at least half an hour early to get the hang of the Arena and where everything is, and just have fun!

Thanks Simon. We decided to give it a go and booked tickets for the Easter Saturday game - $10 each (plus booking fees etc). We even got to see the view from our seats via the Ticketmaster website.

I'm looking forward to the whole experience - not too bothered about the actual game!

We went to see Orlando Magic last December against Washington Wizards (we got to see Michael Jordan before he retired!).
We ordered our tickets through Ticketmaster.com.
We were told to arrive at the staduim 1 hour before the game and collect the tickets from the Will Call window at the ticket centre.
We thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Its totally different to sports events in this country. Fans from both sides mixed together and there wasn't a hint of any trouble.
We sat on the back row in the upper tear. Although we were at the back the view was excellent.
Our only regret was not taking a camera into the game. We thought that they were not allowed but other fans were taking them in and using them throughout the game.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Bruce.

I took my kids to a match last December and we had the $10 tickets from Ticketmaster. It was the boys highlight of the trip.

Thanks Sian. It's good to know that you enjoyed it. I'm quite looking forward to it too!

Does anyone know if Orlando Magic play in August time? Had a look on ticketmaster.com but it doesn't go that far ahead....

The basketball seasons runs October-April, with the play-offs from mid-April to June. The baseball season is in its penultimate month by then (Tampa Bay Devil Rays are nearest Major League team; Brevard County Manatees, at Melbourne, and Lakeland Tigers, at the excellent Marchant Stadium in Lakeland, just off I4, are the nearest Minor League teams - well worth looking out for), while American Football is in pre-season mode (in Tampa, Jacksonville and Miami).

The other worthwhile sport in town is Arena Football with the Orlando Predators (an indoor, half-sized version of American Football), and their season runs Feb-May 2004. Check out http://www.orlandopredators.com/

Thanks Simon... we'll need to go at a different time of year next time, our son is Basketball daft and would have loved to watch a game whilst we were over... we have your book and I'm starting to go through it just now preparing for August, good job!
