Orlando Gyms?

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has any advice about gyms that they use when visiting Orlando.

I am assuming that most gyms are tourist-friendly, and that most do some kind of pay-per-day thing (rather than just memberships) in the tourist capital of the world, right?

I need some kind of free weight, loud-music type gym, or maybe a Crossfit box with open workout hours. Not interested in Planet Fitness or any other get-kicked-out-if-you-grunt-too-loud kind of gym.

Thanks for any advice!

Where are you staying? I remember the YMCA Aquatic Center on International Drive had some sort of deal with some of the hotels that allowed guests to use their gym free of charge. There are a few LA Fitness and Gold's Gym branches in the area as well.

There are several Crossfit gyms in the area. South Orlando Crossfit seems to get good reviews.

When I lived in Orlando, I was a member at the Gold's Gym on Turkey Lake Rd (near Sand Lake Road). It had a bit of a "meathead" feel to it. Assuming it hasn't completely changed, there's no way a few grunts while lifting will get you tossed out. They also definitively offered daily/weekly rates for visitors.

Gym website (with contact email for questions): http://www.goldsgym.com/drphillipsfl/

Address: 7733 Turkey Lake Rd, Orlando, FL 32819

This gym is about 8 miles/13 minutes from Disney Springs. Or for comparison, it is 12 miles/16 minutes from Disney's All-Star Resorts.

Thanks a lot for the help.

I don't know how I forgot to mention that we are staying in the Southern I-Drive area.

I did look into that Gold's Gym, but their website isn't specific about allowing day-passes, and many Gold's Gyms don't (i.e. you have to buy monthly memberships), so it's good to know that they will do a day or week pass. I guess that is essential for a business in Orlando.

It looks like South Orlando Crossfit only has open hours from 11am-1pm, so I'm not sure that would work - I'm in town for a convention that is all day long for 4 days - but they do have a lot of WOD classes, so I could consider that as well.

Thanks again!

No problem, J-Dog. I would recommend contacting that Gold's Gym to confirm they still have visitor passes. That might have changed since I was a member there.

where are you staying - most of the higher end hotels and definitely most of the timeshares have their own gym.

Thanks for the reply, and no offense to anyone, but every hotel "fitness center" that I have ever seen, even the nicer ones, are a joke. They typically have a treadmill and an elliptical (or an exercise bike, or some other lame cardio machine), and maybe a good fitness center might have a small cable-press machine and MAYBE a couple sets of light dumbbells. I've never seen one with barbells and certainly not heavy barbells and bumper plates.

Maybe hotels in Orlando are better than other places in that respect? Because those just ain't going to cut it for me.

I did a day pass to Gold's Gym about a month or so ago. As stated before, it has the feel of a meathead gym, but who really cares what others think of your workout. It was either @$15 or $20. The pass lasts 24 hours, so you could go back in within that time and get in another workout.

There is also a 24 Hour Fitness farther north, which I prefer, but it might be too far to travel.

Thanks! I think that will likely be the place I will look into, especially if I can get a 24-hour pass for a decent price.

Good info! Thanks!
