Orlando airport closing down Sunday night

Just got off the Fantasy 1/2 hr ago to find our flight for tomorrow canceled. Rented a car to drive back to Canada and make it home for work. First flight out we were offered was Sept 4th. Wish us luck (haven’t had much this trip so far 😬).

Best of luck and safe travels!

Good luck with your long drive. How was your cruise? Was your Castaway Cay day impacted at all by the approaching hurricane? Safe travels to you.

Thx! Already left Orlando. Only 21 hours to go 😂

No CC day was beautiful! Some excursions were canceled I think - so CMs could prep the island for the storm.

They wouldn't change your flight to fly out of Atlanta or Charlotte?

And how are you renting a car in the U.S. to return in Canada? (I'd love to do a one-way rental and fly the other way) Also, was there an upcharge for returning elsewhere?

Not the OP but we have rented a car in the US and driven one way to Canada (did the DCL cruise from Quebec City to NYC).
We did the one way rental with Enterprise.
The AAA clerk told us that was not allowed, Enterprise said it is done all the time.

The drop off fee was kind of steep but it was cheaper and more flexible than flying.

We did get a a certificate from our auto insurance guy saying that we were covered in case of accident or incident while driving in Canada.
We had our auto rental agreement and cruise documents ready for the border crossing but were not asked for anything other than our passports and just waved through.

Good luck with that long drive OP!

Did you have to book by phone or could you book it on line?

Those flights might have been full too. I know that Christmas 2010 when there was the blizzard in the Northeast and my flight (Continental before they merged with United) out of MCO got cancelled I asked about anything earlier than Jan 1 out of Nashville (my dad was willing to come back from their stop driving to their home) but it was as crazy.

I’ve also heard (in a Pop Century Group on the book of faces) of at least one airline (Spirit) that was actually charging people to rebook cancelled flights! And someone defended it saying it is an “act of nature” and they don’t have to provide changes at no fee. It never crossed my mind to fly Spirit (too many horror stories), but this would mix them for me forever if I did consider them.

Did you rent from Alamo? We got off this morning too.Guy at the Counter was complaining about How the airlines have not been communicating to cruise passengers and just canceling flights. And then he did so many one-way long bookings to Ohio and Canada. We are scheduled to fly out on the fourth I hope that happens.

Yes! But out of Orlando. Never got a cancellation e-mail from Spirit. Went online once we pulled into PC & saw it said canceled. Had to call & at first the rep denied it was canceled !

& in the last 4 hours 2 emails telling us to check in for our flight 🙄

Yeah we checked. We’ve driven before. Not optimal, but doable over 2 days with a stop in Knoxville.

Our van is at DTW. We live 40 mins from Detroit & will drop it there. We paid 350$ish USD plus insurance & GPS. I was worried we’d get to another airport only to have that flight canceled, overbooked etc. We would have arrived at DTW around 3pm Sun flying, now 9pm driving.

Small world! Spirit. Their flights went out Sat, but not Sun. Those flights have continuing service to San Juan, so I assume they canceled the entire route stranding us unnecessarily 🤬

We’re in Knoxville this morning ready for our 2nd leg to Detroit to pick up our vehicle.
