Has anyone fly from that airport before? Is there any park-and-fly type of services there? We need to find a secure parking lot to park our car during the vacation.

The air ticket is much cheaper if I fly from that airport than from Hartford, CT.

Thanks.

I have flown out of Worcester several times. It has it's good points and bad points. It is not that bad to get to. It is a small aiport and you do not have to get there 2 hours early because not that many people use it. Parking is cheap ($42 a week) and is close to the terminal there is no need for park and fly. On the down side there is not a large availability of time slots to get to Florida. There are no direct flights. If you have any fear of flying US Air flights are usually turbo prop and Delta uses small Jets. If you have any othe questions let me know.

i am in Portland maine and have been checking boston for flights how much futher or closer is worcester ???? thanks michelle

Worcester is probably 30 minutes longer or better from Portland. If your are looking for an alternate to Boston I would try Manchester which would be closer to portland then Boston is.

I used to live 2 miles from the Worcester Airport (for 17 years) and the weather used to cancel about half the flights out of there. Between the fog, snow, wind, etc. DH traveled a lot on business, and even though we lived so close, he would avoid flying out of Worcester because of the unreliability. We flew to WDW once out of Worcester, but after that, we switched to going out of Hartford. But this was a few years ago-perhaps they've improved their radar or something, so that flying out of there is more reliable.

- manchester is a nice airport too - last Dec, but at the moment i am having a hard time finding a decent fare - they are all $200.00 or more.. I am spoiled last year i traveled roundtrip from MHT to TPA for $95.00 per person !! so paying almost double is gonna kill me .. LOL

I've lived near the Worcester airport for 10 years now. I have flown from Worcester, but stopped after one of our Florida trips turned into an all day nightmare to try to get to FL.

Worcester still has problems with the weather - it seems like ANYTHING can cause delays and/or cancellations for this airport. It's on the top of a large hill, and seems to get fog, rain, snow, much worse than any of the surrounding areas.

Normally it is much more expensive to fly from ORH; I still check to see what it would cost, since we can take a taxi to the airport from home. But we havent' flown from Worcester for at least 5 years becuase of costs and weather issues.

Also, US Air announced at least a week before their bankruptsy (sp??) filing that they would stop the flights out of Worcester in early Sept.

I would avoid the Worcester airport. I agree with the suggestions about Manchester (for your location), and we always fly from either Providence RI (TF Green, airport code PVD) or Hartford Bradley airport (airport code BLD).

thanks for the suggestion. I will stick with Hartford then.

Don't forget about Providence! It's only about a half-hour or so from Worcester, and they have Southwest.
Simba's Mom, they haven't done anything about the Instrument Landing System there, and since the new access road isn't going to happen (they'd be destroying a lot of homes), I wouldn't be surprised if all scheduled service from there stops soon. Especially with US Airways in bankruptcy, and AA reducing their schedule.

Actually, Providence is more like an hour from Worcester (assuming you obey or nearly obey the speed limits).

We live in Auburn, which is the town just south of Worcester, and it takes us an hour to get to Providence Airport, and about an hour and 5-10 mins to get to Hartford.

We prefer the PVD airport, newer, nicer.

Hey JeanK-
Providence is a real easy airport to get in and out of. I have a direct Delta flight at 7:25am and get into MCO around 10:15 am. or so..

I never use Logan (Boston ) unless I absolutely have to.

Good Luck in whichever airport you decide on.

jeank24,
How much cheaper? We're booked out of BDL for Nov on SW for $158 RT, but I might consider changing if the savings were enough...

My FH just booked a flight from BDL to MCO with Delta today. $176 r/t per person, which is pretty good compared to $264 from United Airline. My FH is big on airmile, so we have to go with either UA or Delta.

Rpsemont,

to answer your question, if you were asking me about the price difference with UA, the saving is about $60 per person. Worcestor does not have SW though.....Also, according to what people above have informed me about Worcestor, I won't consider flying out from that airport.

Thanks for the help, everyone!:bounce:

Jean- just as a positive about Worcester - my neice flew into Worcester from Fairbanks, Alaska at Christmas time - and then flew back out of there on Jan 4th on United. Had no problems either way and liked the convenience. In all fairness, only a few responded but there are countless others who either read and didn't post or don't read these boards and fly from there. We have known people who have flown on PanAm from Worcester to Sanford, FL and had no problems either. I think that there will be problems from many airports that must be weather related. Just wanted to relate a positive experience with Worcester.
Have a wonderful honeymoon. :D
