Organizational Tips for the Room???

For the person concerned about recycling... in our rooms we have always had a green garbage can with Jiminy Cricket on it that is for recycling. We make an effort to use it as much as possible.

hangers: In general all the resorts have about 10-12 hangers in the closets. You can certainly get more hangers by phoning mousekeeping. In fact, on each trip I phone mousekeeping as soon as we arrive to ask for more pillows and an additional 10 hangers. This is has yet to be an issue.

Rechargeable batteries are a must especialy for you camera(s). I bought 2 sets so one would always be charged. They have great econimical options at Target. I use them now that we are home for my Swiffer WetJet, kids toys, etc. I will never buy regular batteries for my camera again. (Of course this only works if you have a digital that accepts traditional size batteries.)

Wow thats a great idea about the hangers and the pillows, I was not looking forward to taking hangers with me, I have enough things to try and squeeze into the luggage! I will definitely be phoning mousekeeping when I arrive
Thanks for the tip :)

Thanks for the hanger tip. For some reason, I've never thought to ask for more of those. We ask for more of other items, but never hangers.

Speaking of pop-up hampers...I bought one about a month ago after reading on this board about taking them with you. I was so excited about a crazy hamper. My DD5 has taken the hamper to use temporarily in her room to store all her stuffed animals. She picked the Disney princess one.

Not exactly an organizational tip, but don't forget to take a cheap nightlight to plug into your outlet strip/surge bar. We also take a nightlight for the bathroom. :)

Here I was so proud of myself....

I was walking around a dollar store checking things out with Disney in mind when I saw the pop up hamper. Here I thought I'd had my own idea....

I already have 2 at home so didn't buy it. We like to use it for the beach - a quick gather up for sand toys and easy to shake out the sand when we get to the car.

This might be off topic, but speaking of beaches - I have a great tip:

Plastic tobaggans work great for transporting stuff from the car to the "perfect" spot. We like to go to Lake Michigan and the beach at Holland is a LONG walk on the sand. We were thinking of how to use the stroller when we saw the toboggan in the garage (yes, it was not put away in July) and realized it would work great. We load up the toys and cooler, umbrella and chairs and pull. It even pulls on the parking lot - just a bit noisier!

I'm wondering if anyone has any tips to keep everything organized in the hotel room. We are a family of 5 staying at POR. Last trip it seemed like "stuff" was everywhere in the room and it was driving me crazy! What do you all do w/ dirty laundry, all the shoes, souveniers, etc...just the "stuff" that piles up over the week? I am considering getting one of those shoe organizer things to store things in....any other tips!!
Here are my tips and I hope they help (I just tried to post this but somehow lost it so I hope it doesn't show up twice)
1. We unpack as soon as get there (clothes hung up and put in drawers)
2. I went to the $ store and bought a over the door shoe rack for our
bathroom items (loved it)
3. I put the suitcases inside each other and put them in the corner
4. I only take the papers and guide books I actually need for our trip
5. I put our days iteneries and confirmation #'s on 3x5 colored notecards
and keep them in our fanny bag
6. I have the mousekeeping tips already to go in envelopes before we
leave for our trip so I just pull them out of the drawer every night (so
I don't forget them in the a.m.)
7. I pick up the room every night and morning

THese are probably repeats so I apolize. Enjoy We love POR

I hang a laundry bag on a hanger in the closet for soiled laundry.
The Power Strip is great to have.
I used to hang the Shoe Organizer on the back of the bathroom door. It really worked out great for all the different items needed and kept the counter top uncluttered. Then they went and changed the doors and now the door does not close in certain resorts if you try to hang the shoe organizer. I ended up hanging it up in the closet. Not as convenient.
I also have one of those collapsable dryers to hang things on. Hanging things on the bathroom line does not work for me because someone constantly seems to be needing a shower and stuffs everything on the towel rack. :)
I use a small bag from one of our purchases for all receipts.
I pack a single use of powdered laundry detergent in a sandwich bag. I make enough to do our laundry once during the trip. I fill another zip lock bag with quaters. I then put them all in a larger zip lock bag with enough dryer sheets to match.
We drive so if we are going to have a patio, I bring those collapsable chairs so we can all sit together outside.
I carry a small backpack and all things needed for the park visits stay in there.
Thanks for the reminder about the night light. I always forget one!
I also bring a flashlight and leave it on the nightstand.

Does anyone know if the shoe holders will fit over the bathroom doors at ASMU We will be there in Sept. If not I need to make sure I can hang it in the closet.

I hate the thought of the toothbrushes touching the sink, and I can't stand mushy bar soap.I bought a plastic toothbrush holder at the $1 store and decorated it with Mickey stickers. Did the same with a liquid soap dispenser. These are great to keep and use on any trip! Also bought a pack of suction cup hooks. These are great to attach to the shower wall for hanging up wet bathing suits.

I found a 3-pack of magnetic hooks at Dollar Tree yesterday. I haven't tested them yet, but I'm hoping the magnet is strong enough to hold the shoe holder - then I could hang one on the bathroom door (blocking the full-length mirror) or even on the back of the entry door.

Are you sure that the doors are made out of metal? It seems that most hotel-room doors would probably be made of wood.

I plan to hang my shoe holder on the shower curtain rod - since I pull the shower curtain closed as soon as I'm done taking a shower, it would be a handy place to have it!

They are steel doors, at the values for sure and I'm pretty sure the moderates too.

:yay: First off I hope you enjoy your trip, I am a bit of a neat freak so I thought I would add some of my organization tips for you... (some may have already been mentioned if so then it must be really good)...

1. I use the very top drawer of the dresser for souviner photos, receipts, ect and everything stays in the plastic bags it comes in wraped neatly around the item, the 2nd drawer holds our ceral, snacks etc.

2. I unpack all the clothes on the shelf above the closet folded neatly one pile for each person ( for each day the underwear and clothes are already matched together with socks and all just take a pile down each day and go!)

3. At ASM you normally will have about 4 clothes hangers with the clips I used these to hang wet swim clothes on (make sure to wring out very well and place a towel or two under clothes to catch any dripping water shouldn't be much).

4. I normally line up everyones shoes under the window near the door this amkes for a quick getaway.

5. All tickets and anything else needed for the parks goes in the fanny pack and "park bag". This hangs on the back of the chair closes to the door, the stroller is folded and put away in the closet space when not in use.

6. Toys etc the children get during there stay are put in the last drawer (lowest drawer) of the dresser so they are easily reachable for play and easy for the kids to put away.

7. Make sure to wake up early enough so you can tidy up every morning on the way out and also allow time to tidy up after bath time before sleeping each night. (normally my kids are still awake after there nightly bath time so I put on the television so they can watch a bedtime story before sleeping and the agreement is they lay quitely and watch t.v while i tidy up and lay out the next days clothes or the t.v is turned off and they will get so bored watching me clean they will defineatly fall asleep then...thats actually a good idea isn't it?)

I hope this helps and last but not least if you dont bring a hamper use the large plastic bags for dirty clothes (I suggest the hampers), make sure you desginate an area for the dirty clothes though .

:cool1: :thumbsup2 :goodvibes

We are frequent travelers (family of 5) and no matter where we go one thing always works, pack light. We pack 1 large ski bag that we check and 1 carry on with essentials. Not even DW gets to bring 5 pair of shoes! My motto when we are packing is the less we bring the less clutter in the room. It is amazing what you can get by without....not sure how this will work when DD hits her teens in a couple of years.
