Ordering of kids menu @ Blue Bayou

Does anyone have any experience with this? I am an adult (obviously ) but usually find the children's menu's to be more appetizing and the portions to be more "reasonable" considering I hardly ever rent a locker to put any leftover's in (doesnt sound too good either) and I hate leaving large portions of food because I am not able to finish a good portion of it.. I did this in WDW and got a dirty look from the waitress (at Sci Fi diner) and it was pretty embarressing.. don't really want to repeat this experience but I want to experience the BB and it's a special trip for my youngest DS to celebrate his birthday so I thought what could be better than sitting inside his favorite ride..

My understanding is that an adult ordering off the kid's menu at Blue Bayou would be served a double portion at a menu price comparable to an adult meal. I guess if it's the kid menu items you're after and a double portion is still too large for you, you could always consider sharing with your DS. If you like one of the main menu items, again, you could consider splitting with your DS. If you each want individual sides and just want to share the main entree, then you ask to do a split plate. You will pay a split plate fee in addition to the cost of the meal. If you don't each want your own full portion of the sides and just want to split the meal in half, then just order one meal and ask for an extra plate.

I think others have reported that you can but they will double the portion and charge you for an adult portion.

Yes, as PP's have said, you can order from any kids menu at any TS restaurant (except the BBQ) and you will be charged double the price for double the portion, an adult cannot order off the kids menu and receive a kids portion at a TS restaurant without medical reason. I'm sure someone will come on and refute this but this has been our experience. At BB I would suggest ordering 1 meal and splitting it, there will be a split plate fee but you will both get sides and starters.
Of course at CS places you can order from the kids menu without issue.

What I have been known to do (if looking for a smaller portion) is ask for the kids size at the adult price. It is all about what you want. I do not take left overs, so I try to get just what I need.

If you "split" a plate, you get 2 sets of sides and they will charge you $12 regardless of the age of either party.

If you "share" a plate you just get the one order and they will not charge you the fee.

I read the menu online somewhere and thought I remembered reading that it was for kids up to age 9. Would they charge more if my 12 year old son ordered from the kid's menu? He orders mac-n-cheese at every restaurant we go to!

Yes they are strict - they wouldnt let my 10 yr old order a kids meal. She could have ordered an adult portion off the kids menu but they encouraged her just to order off the adult menu which she really enjoyed

Yes, very strict IME as well. Same thing happened to us, I told the server that DD (then 13, now 17) wouldn't eat anything from the adult menu, as I was about to ask about her ordering a double portion from the kids menu he interrupted me and stated (with a bit of an attitude) and said "she can't order from the children's menu", my response was simply "Ok, then she won't eat here", he quickly backpedaled and said she could order from the kids menu but it would be the adult portion at an adult price, I smiled and said "hmmm, that's what I was going to say". LOL He then ended up letting her order the child's portion but we did add to the order in the form of an appetizer, which we never ordered but she wanted to try the crab cakes. lol

And Blue Bayou is simple for light eaters if you have someone willing to share with you! I share with our DS13 and give him the soup - 1/2 an entree is plenty for my lunch.

Blue Bayou was the only table service restaurant we had a problem with - this was 3 years ago when DD was 10 as I said. She was able to order off the childrens menu at Napa Rose and Steakhouse 55 no problem. We did pay adult price for her at Storytellers, Minnie and Friends and Goofys but we'd expected to do that anyhow

That is so weird that everyone here has had troubles ordering from the kids menu, or got adult sized portions from what is on the kids menu or had to pay more for it. When I went with my Mom I got the kids menu and didn't pay anything extra or get an adult sized portion of the food even though my mom explained and asked them if it was okay that I ordered from the kids menu and if she needed to pay extra she would but our server said it was no problem.

I think it depends on the person because I have gone twice and have never had any issues.

Great to hear! We'll give it another try for DS13 at Napa Rose in August. Might need to try at Carthay Circle, too.

My last visit to BB was years ago. They did then, but I'm not sure, as they've changed their menu plenty of times since. I'm currently stuck in bed, so I'll take a few minutes to look around and see what I can find.

Looks like it's a no on the BB appetizer menu. Just the starters that come with entrees (soup, gumbo or an upgrade to a shrimp cocktail).
