Ordering Drinks Not on Menu At Palo

I just read about something called a Californication - that sounds like it would be an amazing brunch drink. (Kind of like a mimosa, but better). Even if Palo doesn't have it listed - can you order it as long as they have the ingredients?

Oh and instead of making a seperate post...

In concierge for the free bar, I read on here that I can't do blended drinks like daiquiri owing to no blender available, but can I still order other mixed drinks?

Things like an Old Fashioned, Cosmopolitan or a Mint Julep?

Or am I limited to straight whiskey, rum, tequila etc.

For the Concierge open bar, they usually have some ingredients (mint, cherries, oranges) and mixers (soda, ginger beer, tonic), so they can do basic mixed drinks like the ones you mentioned but do not expect a full bar with vermouths, amaros and other niche ingredients. We’ve had Old Fashioned, Negronis, Mojitos, but nothing more than that.

Can’t help you with the drink possibilities at Palo specifically but the bars onboard can do pretty much anything as long as they have the ingredients. Any bar can do a Californication, even the Concierge host, since it uses basic spirits and orange juice.

Any Idea if the following would be available via conceirge?

Mint Julep
Mai Tai (Sweet)
Mojito
French 75 (- 2 oz gin, - 2 dashes simple syrup - .5 oz lemon juice - Champagne)
Dark & Stormy
Sherry Cobbler
Anise

Mint Julep - I don’t think they do crushed ice. It’s not really a julep with cubed ice.
Mai Tai - Nope, they do not have curaçao or orgeat.
Mojito - Yep.
French 75 - Not a problem.
Dark&Stormy - They usually have Gosling, so you would have the real thing.
Sherry Cobbler - I don‘t think I saw a sherry bottle, but they definitely do not have Luxardo Maraschino.
Anise - I don’t know what you are referring to specifically but I never saw pastis or absinthe in the backbar.

I've never been a big drinker, but I figured this might be a good chance to try things that tickle my fancy. =)

Would I be able to try the Mai Tai somewhere else on the ship? Or Sherry Cobbler? Let's be honest I only want to try the mint julep because I grew up in Ky and I've never had one. That just seems like blasphemy somehow.

And yeah I meant absinthe I've wanted to try that ever since I watched Penny Dreadful.

You best chance to get a specialty mixed drink onboard is the lounges in the adult section, Meridian or Cove Cafe. Don’t expect anything fancy from the other bars, like those around the pools or the theatre.

They should offer a version of a Mai Tai (probably not Trader Vic’s) and a decent mint julep, which is not really difficult. Sherry Cobbler would probably not be available since Sherry does not keep for long once the bottle is opened, and maraschino is difficult to source. They might have a bottle of absinthe lying around somewhere. I never saw one.

They offer a Mai Tai, or did pre-pandemic~Captain's Mai Tai on the ship. Not conceirge lounge that I have seen. Pretty tasty. Here is the recipe-

Captain Morgan spiced rum

Amaretto disaronno

Pineapple juice

Orange juice

Top Myers dark rum

If you like licorice and anise, then you will like Absinthe.

The addition of cold water turns Absinthe cloudy producing what is known as a "Louche". This is produced when the the supersaturated alcohol is diluted and can no longer dissolve the oils and releases aromas.

For the concierge bar, if they have the ingredients on board and it doesn’t involve a blender just ask and it will happen. Put in a request with shoreside before the cruise and they will endeavor to have the ingredients in the lounge. My husband taught the bartender how to make this ridiculous shot drink on our last cruise and the bartender practiced the next day h til he got it perfect (it is layered and has to be poured just right) and served over ten different people the next night.
