ordering contacts with an "expired" prescription

Wearing the same lenses for six months is more dangerous for YOU, but he can't be held responsible for that. Giving you a refill on an expired prescription is more dangerous for HIM, and like anyone else, he is protecting himself. I can see that this would be a frustrating situation, but not really the doctors fault.
We are saying the exact same thing. My point was that even though he knew his patient was putting himself in a risky situation, he cares more about his rear end. Don't doctors take an oath to put their patients' health first?

All online contact lens companies are now required to verify contact lens Rx's. A FEDERAL law was passed in 2004 making it the law that a contact lens RX is only good for one year. All lenses must be verified, subject to a $10,000 fine for filling or writing an RX for more that one year. And the 48 hour rule is business hours, so holidays and after hours doesn't count.

Do you know if this also applies to glasses?

The same does not apply for an eyeglass RX. However, most of my fellow optometrists and ophthalmologists indicate that our eyeglass RX's expire after 2 years. The law allows us discretion, though, to make it expire whenever we see fit. It is the law that your doctor must release your eyeglass or contact lens RX. Hope that helps.
