Which ones would you NOT order from? I will NEVER order a cake from Super Wal-Mart or Winco. I've eaten cakes from there before and they've tasted like sponges both times, seriously. Whenever I order a cake for a special occasion I always order them from Raley's. Their cakes are GOOD!!!! :goodvibes

Sam's and Costco both have very good cakes. I've had way more from Costco as I lived in CA much longer. Also the flat cakes are huge so you can't justify them very often. Very reasonable - less than $20 for a big sheet cake.

I used to order a cake from Costco for opening night at our local theatre. We served a small piece of cake to over 100 people and still always had cake left over. My personal favorite was chocolate with whipped cream icing and a custard layer in the middle.

I agree about the Walmart cakes. And the Costco cakes too for that matter. I try my darndest however to make and decorate the cake myself as it is so much cheaper.

I think the main differences is the icing. Most of these stores get their cakes in from the same companies. They come in frozen and already baked and all they have to do is thaw them and frost and decorate. I like the icing from Publix the best but Walmart has the best price.

We have a French , locally owned by immigrants, bakery here.
Their cakes are divine, esp the Dobasch- as are their specialty pastries-Dh always brings his customers a box from them when he makes a good sale.

I buy it at a local bakery or at costco if it is for my daughters birthday party. Walmarts sell clothes, toys junk etc...not food....here.

I only buy cakes from a local bakery. We actually had a new one open up very close to us and the cakes are AMAZING!! :thumbsup2

I love Costco's cakes. The chocolate mouse filling is SOOOOO good. I don't like cakes from Shoprite though. We got one for DD's birthday and I thought it tasted like soap. That didn't stop DH or DD from eating to though  .

Wegman's cakes are really good. Their new chocolate one is worth every calorie.

If I don't make it myself, I get it from a grocery store we have in Virginia called Ukrops and I get them from there or if I'm in a pinch I will get from Wal-mart and they aren't too bad from Wal-mart here.

That's a whole different category of "divine". Had that type of cake for my 60th birthday. YUM

We order from a local bakery. The cakes are divine--nothing like what you get from Walmart (blech) or supermarkets. They cost a little more, but they are well worth the difference.

What happened to all the little bakeries? We used to have tons, and now you have to search for them. Really annoys me. My Stop & Shop bakery is good, but I want a REAL bakery. I loved going into the bakery for a snack.

We get our cakes form Costco now. I can't help it, I love that buttercream icing, cheap as it is. LOL
My son just had white cake with vanilla cheesecake filling and buttercream frosting for his birthday. Delicious!
As is the chocolate cake with cheesecake filling..and white cake with chocolate mousse filling... :cool1:
I like it all, except whipped cream icing, blech.

And truly, $14.99 for the cake, it's a bargain at twice the price!

I only buy from local bakeries--their quality and flavor can't be matched by any grocery store!

I'm lucky we have a few local bakeries that are very good always get our cakes from one of them. We also have a Wegman's that I love but not their cakes they're ok but not a good as a real bakery. The bakeries are more expensive but the couple times a year I buy a cake I want to really enjoy it.
