If I decided to pay the Fed Ex fee to have the AP's delivered to my home vs getting them from the park kiosk, are they ready to go through the turnstyles or do they have to be brought over to guest services? My DH is really nervous about getting straight into a line when we arrive for park opening this August. He wants to pay the fee if it insures that we can go straight in without having to go to a kiosk machine or guest service window.

Did the same thing - got my passes through FEDEX and walked right up to the turn styles at the park. No guest services - walk right in. Have fun!

I've just done kiosk and it was EASY. Get there a little earlier than you're planning, go to the kiosks, get the tickets. No guest services or people involved.

We ran into a glitch at the kiosks in June: The computer wouldn't recognize the card we used to buy the APs. So two nice TMs tried to help us out. They found my husband's and son's APs but couldn't find me. After 15 minutes, they took us to Guest Relations, where we proceeded to wait an hour to get to the front of the line ... where the nice TM said, "I don't know why they couldn't find you, you're right in the system."
Fortunately, Diagon Alley wasn't open yet, because I would have been in tears at the delay.

Sorry you had that problem but glad the TMs assisted you.

Thanks. In our case, it ended up being just a glitch, as I said, and we ended up having a fine time at the parks. But since the OP was debating about paying the FedEx fee, I wanted her to know that it was a possibility for things to go wrong at the kiosk, which given the crowds right now, could derail somebody's day.
We've got our APs, but if I had to do it over again, I totally would pay the fee.

Sorry that I took awhile to respond...it was a beautiful day at the beach! Thanks to all of you who offered your suggestions about the AP's. With our luck, we would have an issue at the kiosk machine lol. To keep my husband sane (as he is watching the line get longer and longer) I better use the Fedex option. Thank you all again!

So, if getting a preferred pass and if it was sent Fed Ex, does that mean that it would be good for free parking on the first visit? Or is it necessary to be swiped through the turnstiles before it would be "active"

You still need to go through the turnstile the first time before you get the free parking.

I realize the OP is talking about a new pass.

If pass was renewed, will free parking still work continuously assuming the pass was used in the last annual period (but not yet for the new renewed year)?

I think yes but I am always more confused at Uni than DW. I need to spend more days at Uni to get more familiar!! ;)

If i get the passes fedexed to me does that mean they are activated on the day the arrive or the day they are mailed to me or are they activated on the date of first use?

When renewing you actually keep the same card. There's no expiration year on them, and that's why. They just keep on going.

So yes, the parking works.

First use.
