Order entree only at Counter Service?

A few years ago when we went to WDW, we frequently ordered only the entree at counter service restaurants. We were not on a dining plan and found that most times there were just too many fries. Plus they would take a couple bucks off the cost. We are getting ready to go back and I was wondering if you can still do this. I ask because I thought I read that this is no longer the case, but I can't find where I read or have been able to verify this.

We did this just a couple days ago at Columbia Harbor House. Not sure about other QS places, but my guess would be that they also have the entree-only options on their registers. Hopefully someone else will chime in with their experiences...

This is our plan as well. At some places were were able to get broccoli or other sides instead, which was nice. I don't remember now if those were QS tho, because now that I think back the only place I remember eating broccoli was at Columbia Harbor House. Sometimes we just want to try several different things and we can only eat so many fries.

Yes...You don't have to order sides with every entree. My wife and I frequently will order two entrees and one side to share.
