Orbit One vs. Fantasy World

We're going for a week in late Feb/early Mar '06. I'm eventually hoping to snag a 2BR somewhere close via skyauction, but in the meantime want to make sure I have a cancellable reservation that I could live with if worse comes to worse.

The two choices I have are:

Orbit One
$700 for the week (incl. taxes)
15-day cancellation policy

Fantasy World
$480 for the week (incl taxes)
3-day cancellation policy

I'm attracted by the good price and more favorable cancellation terms for FW, but OO is more conveniently located to the parks via Sherbeth, and has slightly more positive reviews. Anyone been to both to compare them?

I have not been to both resorts, but I have been to Fantasy World Villas and enjoyed my stay there. I just looked at Orbit One's web site and didn't think it was that impressive. They do have slides at their pool, which Fantasy World does not and I don't think Fantasy World has a putting green, but unless those things are worth the extra $220 I don't think I would go with the higher priced property. In terms of location, we went in June and we never had trouble with traffic. It is maybe 5 miles from where you would turn onto World Drive. We are renting from them again during Presidents Week. You sounded like you would most likely cancel your reservation and get something through Sky Auction anyway, so I wouldn't bother going with the higher priced location if it were me.

I also have not been to both, but have stayed at Orbit One. It was nice enough but only spectacular because of the great price I got on Skyauction.

Unless you hear of something horrible with FW, I would stay there and save the $. Course, I am incredibly cheap, so will do lots of things to save a buck!

We have not stayed at either, but we did pass Orbit One several times on our way to and from Westgate Vacation Villas. It looked fine, but a bit older and run down. The slide didn't look all that fantastic. It is definitely convenient to the parks, especially Animal Kingdom if you go Sherberth. Good luck!

Stayed at Fantasy World. It's an older place. The rooms were clean, not new and sparkly. The upstairs floors squeaked and the master bed sagged in the middle. But the location was fine, I've stayed in that area many times and it's no big deal to get to the parks, easy and quick. We only had two nights there and then went on to a week at Orange Lakes which was on a whole different level.

Brian,

I only know a little about each one. From people on these boards, they say they are a clean, basic place to stay.

I might check into this one if I were you. From what I hear on these boards, I think a nicer place. And isn't Silver Points the new section of Silver Lake?? Someone on here knows the answer.

This wouldn't be as much as Orbit One but not much more than Fantasy V.

And then there are these from Summer Bay.......a little more further out but nicer, so they say.

All of these would beat Orbit One's price. I don't think I would pay more than $260 for this because that's what you can get it for on Skyauction RSG auction. $100 a night seems a little pricey.

Good Luck, Brian. :wave2:

Oh, sorry.........wanted to say..........

so I guess if I just wanted to make a back up resie for now, I would pick FWV.

Are your dates not in stone yet, is that why you don't want to do anything via Skyauction now?? Hummm, I'm not sure what I would do ........I'm not much help, am I? ;) :teeth:

No, my dates are in stone---2/25 through 3/4. And, based on what airfare has been doing for those dates from DTW since I bought the tickets, I'm really really glad! ;)

I saw the summer bay listing---I really want to be closer than that, and I also don't believe $600 will be the best skyauction price for that property---I think they're fishing to try to get the best price out of folks that they can by listing it early and at a higher price. The sliver lake listing doesn't look bad, but it's not valid for my dates. Even if it were, I don't think I'd book anything non-cancellable for more than $350 or so this early. I'm really hoping to get a Ready Set Go listing.

I think in the meantime I'll get the FWV as my cancellable backup. Looks like it meets our needs (2BR, kitchen, not too far, not a dive) for now.

Gotcha. ;) Totally understand.

I've never had to book that time period and didn't know if it's slim pickens or not as time goes by.

I'm looking to maybe add a week to our beach vacation next year. It would be May 27th - June 3rd. I'm thinking it's really going to be hard finding something on SA....hope I'm wrong.

We stayed at Orbit One last December for a week. I'm not sure if I would stay again. I DEFINITELY would not pay $700 for the place . Try www.afvclub.com
There are some nice resorts and not expensive. Good luck!

Mom-of-dwarves: I don't really know what the situation will be for that week either. It's the week *after* President's week, but it is still Peak Season on-property, and several of the Pool Home agencies are raising their rates that week, rather than President's Week. That's why I want to be sure I have a cancellable backup I can live with.

Paxtrist: I do a lot of DoD contracting, but (unfortuantely) am not (yet!) eligible for afvclub...

Brian,

You can have someone buy it for you as a gift. The web site explains it. There are some good deals on the site especially if you look under the Space A.
