I am in the very preliminary stages of planning. I asked for a quote for the 4 day cruise in a Cat. 4. stateroom. Depending on the cost, should I also consider asking grandma to go with us and get two rooms in a higher category? Our kids will be 17, 16 and 9 when we sail next year.

Thanks.
Newbie to cruising. :flower:

You certainly could. Also, with the ages of your children, you could take one outside, and one inside room. You will already be paying adult fare for two of them. Some people take a cat.6, and a cat.11, directly across the hall. It will more than likely be less expensive. Or, if you do not need the balcony, you could book 2 cat. 10 connecting cabins..This would be the cheapest, and with 2 rooms, the bonus obviously is the 2 bathrooms, 2 tv's, space, etc..Especially with 5 people.

HTH :goodvibes

We are also a family of 5 (DS 15, DS 13 & DD 6) booking our first cruise. We opted for two connecting secret porthole rooms. We are also taking grandma so we'll have three people in each room. We are cruising in Sept '06. We got a pretty reasonable price.

Enjoy your cruise! :wave2:

Oh my - there is so much that I don't know! What category are the secret porthole rooms? :confused3

Just to let you know this august we have two connecting cat. 9's, and it was almost $3000 cheaper than a cat 4. The way i look at it we are going to have double the space than we would have with the cat 4.

We're a family of 5 too, and always will get connecting rooms. The amount of space is much better, and having two bathrooms (actually 4 if you count the split) was wonderful for us. We do connecting cat. 8 rooms, because our kids are not old enough to be across the hall. When they are, we may do cat 6/11, but we'll see--I like the idea of being able to "see them" without going out of the room. I have a feeling this may be more the case when they are older teens (LOL).

:rotfl: - I'm rethinking the idea of being able to shut the teens out if I have to. ;) My quote, as suspected, was in the $6000+ range for our time frame. (Easter) I asked for another quote for the Cat.6/11 split. I think we really want a verandah even though we've never cruised and have no point of reference.
