options for an 8 yr old?

My 8 year old broke his leg in December. He got his boot off last week, but is limping quite a bit. We have a trip for a convention at the end of the month, and I'm trying to figure out what my options are for him if his leg can't handle the walking. He's 4'8 and 105 lb, so he's too big for a stroller. I don't relish the idea of pushing him in a wheelchair all day (but I will if I need to), and I assume he's too young for a scooter, tho he drives 4 wheelers and dirtbikes at home, so he's probably capable of it. We'd rented a child size wheel chair for him at home for about 6 weeks, but the handles were short for me to push him. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

We discussed this and even reached out to one company regarding our going to be 17 year old who has a driver's license. Disney has a policy about scooters, no operators under the age of 18 and they can't/won't rent for her to use it on Disney property.

Last year we rented a pediatric wheelchair for her (she's tiny) from Scooterbug. It was ok. Definitely showed signs of wear. We are going to try another company this time, Walker, who has an 18" wide chair. Scooterbug does have what looks like a bigger stroller - jogging type, no swivel wheels though.

The rental companies won’t rent an ECV for use by an 8 yr old - most won’t even rent for use by anyone under 18.

Orlando Medical Rentals has the largest variety of equipment to rent, so would be my suggestion. If you rent a pediatric wheelchair or special needs stroller, you can also ask them about the push handle height

There are plenty of pediatric wheelchairs that are fine to push. You need to go to a local medical rental and rent a slightly nicer one.

At nearly five feet tall, he may be big enough for a smaller adult wheelchair if you can’t find a pediatric one that’s comfortable for you to push.

Unless he has some other issues that would preclude it (don't want to assume) he is likely able to provide a lot of help in the pushing department and do a lot of it himself. I pushed a wheelchair all over the place at that age including Disney. It might take him a couple hours to get used to but I've seen kids that age figure out a wheelchair in a matter of minutes.
