June UY and July trip booked with June 2020 points.

So if I understand right, I just need to cancel 31+ days in advance to avoid holding, correct? Otherwise, I’m good?

You are correct, cancel 31+ days before checkin date to avoid points going into holding.

Agree. The 2020 points do not expire until May 31, 2021 and the banking deadline for June 2020 points is January 31, 2021. You would have many months to reuse or bank those points if you cancel in time to avoid holding.

That’s what I thought. I wanted to avoid losing my first year of points! I would hope Disney would know if they are going to open up soon by June 1.

What is "holding?"
It’s an account into which your points go if you cancel within 31 days of a reservation. The only way to use them is to call Member Services while scheduling your next trip, which has to be scheduled or completed (can’t remember which) by some chunk of time before your next use year. Sound too complicated? It is. Don’t cancel reservations late if you can help it.

You can use holding points online. They can be booked that way. And to avoid it, it’s 31 days or more from check in.

I wasn’t able to use my holding points online and had to call. I suppose it could have been a glitch

Yes, Ive used them a few times, They will, of course, only show up for use if your check in day is 60 days or less.

Right now they are waiving holding requirements.

I get that, but who knows what’s going on in a month. I’m planning on making the decision to cancel prior to that 30 day mark, but will definitely keep a watch out. I really think the parks will be a lot less crowded and kinda want to go in the first few months of reopening.

We have a September trip booked too, can drive, and I can update our tickets, so I’ve got far more flexibility than most.

Just to clarify, it is 31 days in advance to avoid holding...not 30.

In normal times, that would Make a difference!
