Oprah's Secret - Possible Spoilers!

So happy for Oprah !
Her newly found half sister and her children seem very nice ...and the fact that they did not go public since knowing of this connection for almost 3 years ...makes me feel that she was looking out for Oprah's best intrest...Patricia seems very sincere and genuine .
Hopefully this will all work out and they will have eachother in their lives for a long time to come ! Great outcome....love happy endings !:flower3:

Just curious - other than Oprah herself having a surviving child or a different father, what else could it have been? What would have been a big secret for you?
I thought maybe she was going to talk about her years of abuse or her child she lost.

This woman knew that by being related to Oprah was life changing. She took her time and let it play out as best she could. By sparing Oprah (and her mother) having to deal w/ the gossip magazines, she instantly gained credibility and trust....

I find it a bit disturbing for her that her/Oprah's mom, said no to meeting her 3 or 4 times. That made me sad.

I did not think it was such a big secret either.

I mean her mother had four children by all different men, allegedly knew Oprah was abused and ignored it and then never told her daughter (oprah) even after Oprah asked her more than once to please tell her about it. I had read that O has bailed out her mother several times financially as she has for other family members, and that she had tried to save her sister Pat, in vain. That her mother was "removed" at best and "looked lost" did not surprise me and I did not think that it was stroke related. She did not even appear sincere to me.
A "mother figure" that woman has not been IMHO, sad. O has said she does not even speak to her on a monthly basis, so, I can see where her girlfriend Gail has been her "mother" step in.
I guess a surprise would have been if she spoke about her own "lost" child, was that a miscarriage, an adoption, or what....??? that is sad..........
I am glad she has a half sister, someone to be close too, and the woman and her family appeared to be lovely people, only time will tell how that all goes for all of them. Id like to hear about it in say, 3-5 years, where they are in their relationships...thatd be interesting. I felt saddest for the half sister....they kept talking about (dead) pat and the pressure to be what she "could have been" if not drug addicted............I think that was unfair to her...why put that on her :confused3 Hope they all benefit from this revelation!

I also didn't think it was a "big secret". Like another poster said, Oprah's mother had out-of-wedlock children with a few different men. It wasn't a huge surprise to me that Oprah could have had an unknown half-sibling out there, especially because Oprah and her mother weren't really close for her mother to talk about something like that. I thought it had to do with a secret baby. It was a very sweet show, though.

Ok, I was adopted as an infant. For all the times people have told me, "OMG, you look just like Meryl Streep (or Glenn Close or a whole host of other celebrities)," I admit it will always halfway make me think "hmmmm." I'll bet others can relate to that as well. So this woman and her story had a whole other meaning for me. I was on the edge of my seat and smiling for both of them. How great!

It was kind of a let down for me her idea of a big secert and mine are totally different.

That's a huge deal. If your mother gave birth without your knowing, it would not be surprising to you??

OK for those of you who watched...

All 4 kids (Oprah, Pat, Patricia, and Jeffrey) had the same mother, is that right? I'm assuming there were at least 3 different dads, but they all share the same mom? :confused3 Was Oprah the oldest?

I thought the surprise would be that she adopted a couple of children a few months ago and nobody knew..

They all have the same mom, but they didn't really say who the father(s) of the other kids was/were. Oprah did say that Vernon was not Patricia's (the new half sister) father. Oprah is the oldest.

She also said that Pat & Jeffrey were half siblings.

I just watched it.
Wonderful story. I thought they handled it very well.

The newly found sister Patricia seems like a very nice person. Oprah's nieces (daughters of the deceased sister Pat) seemed very emotional because of the resemblance between Patricia and Pat.

It is amazing that this family knew about this since 2007!

Such a nice woman. Cry, cry, cry......:lmao:
Milwaukee tv stations, have done a few interviews over the years with Oprah's mom. She admits that her and Oprah hardly ever talk, but Oprah has set her up financially now, that she doesn't have to worry about bills anymore. Those were her words on an interview Sunday evening on WISN.com (channel 12). Oprah's mom gave interviews and said "Oprah doesn't allow her to discuss family." I think that was when Oprah's sister died and she took care of her nieces. The nieces run a cafe in Milwaukee.

I definitely got the impression that she takes care of her mom (at least financially), but you could tell it wasn't the best mother/daughter relationship in the world. I think Oprah probably has a lot of issues with her mom and the abuse she suffered as a child. I remember reading she said she'd never be a mother b/c she wasn't mothered well. :sad2: It seemed to me like she keeps a lot of her family relationships at an arm's length in order to protect herself...and probably rightly so.
