Oprah to shut down the mag mile for two days....

You know my mom and I were talking about this today. She is considering going but she has a friend who lives at Ohio and Michigan there so they could use her condo.

I can't believe the city is allowing this. I get that it is Oprah but this is a huge area that she will have shut down for nearly 3 days.

My mom was also reading the details and said that you can't bring much into the audience area. The specifically said there would be water stations but no food.

I know she used Millennium Park last year which made so much more sense then shutting down Michigan Ave.

That's crazy. I was just in Chicago and stayed at the Intercontinental. Its right in the middle of the area that's going to be closed down. It is a very busy area. I would like to hear from some Chicago natives about the impact this might have.

maybe she can re-enact the ferris bueller parade song...

"...shake it up baby, twist and shout. come on comeon comeon baaaaabbby, work it on out..."

Mayor Daley is allowing it because 1. It will get international attention (duh!!) and 2. it is supposed to be a slow time of the year and all of those people hopefully will help stimulate the economy with a little shopping.

Sounds like a nightmare to me!!! :scared1: I won't be downtown those days.

and it is not free. I would like to see what is being paid to the city. She/they are paying CPD for their services, etc...

I can't stand Oprah. She is so full of herself. My parents went to a show once and said that off camera she was being really demanding and rude to her workers too. I think its ridiculous that Chicago should shut down roads for her.

I'm thinking it's also playing into Daley's Olympic bid. Any spectacle he can point to to help his cause. A lot of the retailers there aren't that thrilled. The thinking is that Oprah's audience for a free show isn't going to be comprised of a lot of high-end shoppers.
