Opinions wanted, lots of questions too (hehehe)

Current incentives are:

1. Get first set of points in 2005 and receive discount of $10 per point (net cost of $85 per point).

OR

2. Receive a set of "Developer's Points" for 2004, pay the full price of $95 per point. (If you've visited the DVC web site recently, this is the "Free Vacation" promotion they reference.)

IMO, these "incentives" are about equal in value. Points typically rent for $10-12 each, so the value assigned by DVC isn't out of line.

Regarding the promotions expiring, if you start a dialog with a Guide before you travel, it shouldn't be an issue. This normally only happens when you discover DVC, take the resort tour and meet with a Guide one-on-one for the FIRST time while on-property at WDW. The thread that "DisneyWorld Delight" mentioned may shed some light on the reasoning for assigning an expiration date to the promotion when these criteria are met.

Or perhaps it won't really answer the question since nobody knows for sure what to make of it.

Back to the promotions...if your discussions get to the point where you may actually be able to cancel your cash ressie and start staying on points right away, then #2 would obviously make sense for you. But if that isn't going to happen and you won't be back to WDW before March '05, taking the $10 discount is likely to be the better alternative.
