I am going to WDW this weekend (yes--Frances and all--I need this break and even a hurricane won't keep me away). Anyway, I am thinking of trying to go without a scooter. I have been really building up my stamina with walking but can't stand still for more than a few minutes--tops. I am going with a friend.

Anyway--do you think it would be possible for us to enter the line and she stays back a bit from the people in front of us, sortof holding back the people behind us, and leave me a little pacing room for when I need it ? Or do you think the people behind us will keep pushing forward? (I'm not real worried about it looking weird--these people don't me, don't know my "issue" and if I'm the biggst entertainment they get at DISNEY WORLD--they're the ones in need of help! LOL)

Good luck going during the possible storm.
To answer your questions, our personal experience while waiting in line with DD in her wheelchair is that most of the time, if people see a space, they do tend to move into it (even when we are trying to "save" enough space for the wheelchair to turn). You do have some control, you can look at the line before you get in, and not enter lines that are really full. One thing that was negative about them making the lines big enough to be wheelchair accessible is that they are big enough for people to be more than single file, and go by people ahead of them. \
Another alternative might be to use one of the canes that has a seat built in. I don't know if that would be helpful to you, but I have seen them in sporting goods departments and I have seen people use them in line.

I tried to do this in DL to avoid sun in lines (thankfully not a huge issue at WDW like it is at DL). It totally did not work. As Sue notes, the lines are pretty wide, and when people see a space, they move up and around you. I felt like a rock in a stream with the water (people) flowing around me so I gave it up.

Maybe try something like an umbrella?? ( to physically block off some space for you while waiting in lines).

Have a great trip!

Thanks.

SueM--I've seen those chairs and will have to look into them. The ones I've seen were at casinos in Atlantic City and I have some concerns about the size of the chair's seat vs my "seat".

I'm not sure what I am going to do. Although if Frances goes through and it's rainy most of the time the lines will probably be shorter (optimist ain't I????)

What if your friend waits and you explain the situation to guest services and get a GAP for this reason. That way friend could wait and you could get off line to pace when needed and back in line when you are ready? Will this worK?

This sort of fits into the category of what Disney calls "Endurance Concerns", so it's not likely that they would issue a Guest Assistance Card. Their usual advice for Endurance Concerns (which is really the most logical advice) would be to use a wheelchair or ecv. Many lines don't have a place where you could join your friend back in line after he/she waits.
