Potential first-time DVCer here.

I have an opportunity to purchase around 60 points at VWL. We really were looking for BCV, but I am nervous how often 60 point contracts would become available there. SHould I buy VWL with the notion that probably 60% of the time we will be looking to stay at BCV? We typically go in October (F&W) or May. Thoughts...please?

I am fairly new to DVC, but I can say that BCV will book up very quickly for F&W and you may get locked out if you can't use the 11 month home resort advantage.

If I were you, I would wait and buy BCV. You should have better luck getting into VWL at 7 months than you would BCV.

I think you will be happier if you wait to buy BCV.

I would think you shouldn't have to wait too long to see a contract at BCV that would work for you.

BCV is extremely difficult to get at 7 months during F&W. I'd hold out for a BCV contract.

Since you want to go during the two times that the EPCOT resorts are usually booked fully you may just want to wait for that BCV contract. If you can live with the uncertaintity of getting BCV at the 7 month window then the VWL contract may work for you. Book at your home resort for the 11 month window and then try for BCV at the 7 month one. You may also find someone who would be willing to trade reservations with you since WVL is very popular for the Christmas season. That would not be my first choice however as you have to have a lot of trust to do something like that. You could also do the VWL contract and then at a later date do an add on through Disney for BCV for anywhere from 25 points up to get the amount you would need to book that at the 11 month window by banking and borrowing and take a trip to BCV every other year. Good luck with your decison. You are are the right path by thinking things through and asking questions before you put down any money. If you would be truly unhappy about not staying at BCV then you really need to buy there and be prepared to book your reservations 11 months out. If you can't book more than 7 months out then it does not make any difference where you own.

Brave person asking for opinions!!!!!!
here is an option and maybe not what I would do :lmao:
You can buy the VWL contract and then add on points at BCV through Disney but you will need to add on the number of points you use to have the 11 month window.

Rememer that you are buying not only for 2008 but for 2042 as well...who knows what your resorts preferences will be in 30 years let alone 5 years. You may stay at VWL and like it better than BCV. I was able to book BCV this past April (school vacation week) for my daughter at the 7 month window, so it is not impossible.

As long as you do not dislike VWL then I would consider the VWL contract if the price is right and you feel comfortable with it. If after a couple of years you decide that VWL is not for your or if you have had trouble booking BCV, then you can always sell the contract.
