Hi,

I've been watching the airfare for our August trip for what seems like forever. We normally fly Jetblue roundtrip to Orlando from JFK. I was able to snag our outgoing flight for $79 a couple of weeks ago. The return flight for August 26th however, is $229 per person. No matter how much we love Jetblue I just can't pay it--there are 6 of us!

I found a flight on Delta which fits our schedule perfectly for $79 each. I think I read on here that they aren't doing too well. Should I chance it or keep looking?

Thanks for your replies!

Mary

I would go with the cheapest fare. That's a huge difference. While Delta (and all the legacy carriers) are not doing well, I don't suspect that they will be closing up shop anytime soon.

I'm not from NY but suspect these flight were originally flown by Song (Delta) which meant it would be on a 757 with a nice little tv screen in front of you for your viewing pleasure on the way. This aircraft is eventually going to get pulled and used for flights 1750 miles or longer or mainly transcon. If the tv is no big deal, then go with Delta. Delta does play with their flight times all the time so expect your flight time to change between now and August.

Hope this helps.

I just booked my flight on delta for august a couple of days ago. i also have been watching the flights and jet blue was too much for us, we are also 6 people. i got round trip for 180.pp total, which i didn't think was too bad. jet blue was coming in around 240.pp. the only hesitation that i had is that southwest hasn't released their dates yet past august 3rd. they fly out of islip, i hope they aren't too much cheaper but i didn't want to wait much longer. i booked thru expedia.com they were cheaper then going thru delta directly. i haven't heard that delta is not doing well but i have heard that jetblue isn't doing well!! who knows! but i know how you feel, when you are paying for six people you want it to be cheap!!! :wizard:

Mm, in August I don't think so. I think the Song planes will be reassigned solely to the long-distance flights as soon as each is revamped (repainted and with the front 45 seats changed to 24 first-class seats).
Anyway, Delta is in the reorganization version of bankruptcy. They're not shutting down any time soon. I'd book the Delta flight.

Just announced today:
Delta to increase flights from New York's JFK airport
Tuesday March 7, 11:59 am ET

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Delta Air Lines Inc. (Other OTC:DALRQ.PK - News) on Tuesday said it would introduce 46 new daily flights from New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport to 17 destinations.

The No. 3 U.S. airline said the flights, to be introduced between June and September, would strengthen its hub at the New York airport.

If you can, wait another month or so when SW comes out with their late August fares. This will make JetBlue and Delta more competitive in the region.

At $79 a ticket one-way, I'd book it in a heartbeat! They might alter their schedule a few times in the interim, and that might be frustrating, but I fully expect them to be flying the Northeast to Florida routes for many years to come. Given the increased service they are announcing out of JFK, I'd guess that you'd be plenty safe.

Just wanted to thank everyone for their replies. I screwed up with the airport--its from MCO to LGA not JFK :rolleyes1. Does that make a difference? Thanks again!!!

Well, that helps my Southwest case! :thumbsup2 Wait 'til SW releases their
rates that coincide with your travels and "usually" the competition will follow
suit! Oh, and please don't post later on saying you're leaving from Newark (EWR)! :rolleyes1  :rolleyes1
