I know these are 2 different levels of resorts...

we can stay at POR for 159/night or Poly for 291/night

the differnece for our trip would be $1,000

we can afford it, but I am always a bargain hunter...I have also always wanted to stay at the Poly....and I also know that POR is a beautiful moderate....

does anyone have an opinion to help me feel better about one of these choices either way?? what would you do ???

If your kids are younger, and you anticipate coming back to your room midday, then by all means stay at the Poly. We were there with our young boys a few weeks ago, and the convenience of the monorail was well worth the extra $$$. We could leave the resort at 8:50 am and still be walking up to the gate for park opening @ 9:00. At the moderates, you have to allow 30-45 minutes.

There are other extras, too. The Electrical Water Pageant every evening, watching Wishes from the beach, and being on the monorail with the GF and CR really opens up your dining options. Kona Cafe was delicious. The rooms are a lot bigger at the Poly as well.

So for me, it would be a no brainer, especially if you're not too concerned about the money.

especially if you're not too concerned about the money.

well, I am always concerned, but when doing a week at Disney is $1,000 really a whole lot more when you think of how much you will be spending anyway :)

We've stayed at both. We really love POR. We liked the Polynesian but not for the actual resort. We loved being able to watch the Electric Water Parade every night or the fireworks from the beach. Getting to MK was really easy with the monorail or the boats and getting to Epcot via the walking path to TTC was heaven. As far as the other amenities, we just didn't care. The rooms were fine, bigger than POR and you could sleep 5 comfortably whereas at POR it's hard. You have double beds vs the queens at the Polynesian and the daybed.

But, I liked the pool area at POR better. The Volcano Pool at the Polynesian was nice but it was small and always crowded. I liked the food court at POR. My dh liked Capt. Cook's at the Polynesian and didn't like the food court at POR.

I guess, if your kids are older, you may be better off at POR. But, if you're planning on 1/2 days in the MK or Epcot, you might fare better at the Polynesian. If it were me? I would stay at POR again.

It looks like you may be there for 7/8 nights. I might even spend the first half at POR and then finish off with the Polynesian.

I would stay at the POR and use the extra money saved for nice sit down dinners and souvineirs. After my latest stay at the POLY and from reading all of the post's on the boards lately, alot of people have been having problems with the POLY. It seems to be a risky place to stay right now. If you split your stay, I would stay at the POLY first.
