I posted about my Dig Rebel XT lens upgrade earlier. I've been looking around some and found a few more lenses. I'd like to here any opinions on which would be better. I'm not too familiar with what all these numbers mean (used to yrs ago)

Thansk..all are Canon

28-105 f/4-5.6 $149

28-105 II (f/3.5-4.5 I think) $239

28-200 f/3.5-5.6 $359

28-135 f/3.5-5.6 w/ IS $409

only one i have is the 28-135 and i love it...imo it's sharp and the is helps me a lot :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Of the four you've listed, I would choose 28-105 II because it's faster than the cheaper version; or go all out and do the 28-135 with the IS. However, if you have the kit lens, for not much more money than the 28-135, you could get 70-200/4.0 L or the 70-300 with IS. Both are great lenses and dramaticaly increase your reach. Of course, you will have to change lenses periodically, but you're getting a lot more if that kind of reach is important. Otherwise, the 28-105 II or 28-135 should be fine.

the 28-135 is a great walk-around lens. it's pretty sharp and the IS is great, as jann has pointed out. the 70-200 F4 L is a great lens, but it's pretty big for a walk-around and the white body will mean everyone thinks of you as a big phtotgrapher - which can be offputting for some...

btw the Tamron 28-75 2.8 is a fantastic lens.
