Opinions on the video game Soul Caliber?

DS went shopping with my brother in law and came back with the game Soul Caliber (not sure if it had a number behind the title or not). Brother in law was told by DS that it was okay for him (BIL) to purchase the game for him (son). The game is rated "T" and we only allow DS to play games rated "E" at this time.

We have confiscated the game until we can find out more about why this particular game is rated "T". I would appreciate it if anyone who has played this game or has kids who play this game could chime in and give me a brief synopsis of the storyline as well as your opinion on whether this is appropriate for an 11 year old boy.

Thanks!

It's a fighting game. All fighting is done in a ring. As fighting games go, this is pretty tame. There is no blood or grusome graphics. It's mostly karate type fighting. I use to play this game with my brother all the time when he was 9-10. I think it's pretty fun - I don't see a major problem with it.

Yea, it depends upon what your objections are to violence. This one is by far as tame as it gets. Punch, kick, hit. That's about it. My guys got bored with it - they look for a little more variety in their brutality, I guess :confused3

According to ESRB it is "T" for Viloence and suggestive themes. I personally would let my 11 yr old DS play it, but we do already allow quite a few "T" games.

Thank you for your honest opinions. It has been confiscated for about 3 weeks because we wanted to do some research first. I should have just posted here first.

If it's the original, then all I have to say is:

Best.
Game.
Ever.

Depends on your kids...

My kids, 7 and 8 play it.

My friends kids get all agitated by the violence.

How is your kid with violent movies and stuff?

Good question! Both of my boys (11 and 6) love to watch the LOTR trilogy and therefor we let them play games that are similarly based.

I consider this one as mild as it gets under the 'T' label and a good one to start with in that category. It's fighting a bit like the wrestling games but without the suggestive scenes that the wrestling games have. I can't even really remember anything suggestive in Soul Caliber so I'm not certain what that means in this case.

My son played it at a pretty young age too. He was probably around 8 or 9.

We will let DS watch some movies with violent content and language as we know that he can handle it. We are much more careful as to sexual content (and have even found that some PG-13 movies are far more sexually explicit in their "innuendo" than we are comfortable with.)

I think we will let him have his game back and monitor closely while he plays. Thanks for all of the responses!
