Opinions on the monorail resorts?

I would save the GF stay for a time w/o kids, especially teens. My 2 teens this past trip thought it was boring and we were only passing through! There are just a very few games tucked in the corner of the counter service place, no real arcade and the counter service is very limited. Stores boring I am told!
And while the pools are nice enough, the rooms are very feminine as you mentioned.

We've stayed at the POLY and my kids loved it. Pools are the best. Counter service is good too. shopping was fun for kids as well. We ate at Ohanas and Konas. I think a lot depends on your server/table location for both.

I like the CR more every time I visit and the construction is really moving along so the inside should be ship shape soon. Only down side is kind of underwhelmed by the pools. The rooms do look to good to be true, love the understatement of them. Storage could be an issue with teens as well.

Monorail convenience is hard to beat but SSR is delightful for lots of other reasons. Space is so important for teens, walk to DTD is great for kids that age, the community hall is cool to with pingpong, playstation, etc. pool is fun too.

Yikes! so many choices! Have a grand time. You are a great stepmom!

We ate at Ohanas and Konas. I think a lot depends on your server/table location for both.

don't know about that - had a wonderful waiter at o'hana and a view of the castle - still don't like the food.

at Kona cafe no matter where they seat me I can eat the food.

Mmm Kileybeth - the poor arcade offerings might just might make me lean towards GF. I hate arcades and try to limit the kids using them on vacation. Anyway, last May at WL I was silly enough to trust my kids with room charging privileges. I also got them the prepaid arcade cards. What I didn't consider was the fact that they could top up the arcade cards by charging them to the room.

Anyway, I was charging some film in the Kodak store and it wouldn't go through. I had reached the limit they allow you in only three days. I thought this was odd, as we were on the Dining Plan. But, it turned out that they'd spent hundreds of dollars in the arcade and charged it to the room! They are v good at doing this, they sneak off while they're in the pool, going to the shop etc. So, no more charging privileges for the kids!

Pat I love Kona Cafe too - the food is lovely - especially the Tonga Toast. I think we may just try there on the first night instead. What I don't want is to take them somewhere awful on the first night. They will be worried about what they're going to have to eat for the rest of the trip - and the eldest is a really picky unadventurous eater.

OMgoodness! I would have had cardiac arrest if my kids did that! Yikes. We also gave them the prepaid cards and when they were gone, they were gone. Gave them something to do instead of grumbling when I wanted to do something for the little ones.

We have enjoyed Ohana's both times we've gone but I think it may be that our reservations are always for non peak times, we've had excellent service, they are always willing to bring my picking eaters (toddlers and teens) something else if they don't like the items on the buffet and I don't know what I'm missing from the "old menu" :confused3

And to add to that, our one and only meal at Konas, was at a crowded time, we had horrendous service, food was cold (breakfast, cold eggs and french toast are just yuk)and they messed up our bill! But even with all that, I'd try it again just b/c it does get such good reviews normally!

Final note, if you stay at the GF, can I come too? It is the one place I would love to stay at as well and with our 4 little monsters it won't be happening on my ticket anytime soon!

Have great trip! Let us know how it goes.
