Opinions on Sci-Fi?

We are all simple eaters and don't like anything too fancy. Is Sci-Fi all that bad or would it be ok for us? I can tell by the pictures that the kids would think decor was just awesome!

I went to the Sci-Fi on my last trip and loved it! You really felt like you were outside at a drive-in and our waiter was so ammusing! He would go "beep beep" everytime he came to the car. The food was good and atmosphere was great. Sci-Fi has become one of my favorites and I will go there on my next trip in May.

Just one thing...there are picnic tables in the back. I would make sure I requested a car!

As you are not picky eaters then I think you would enjoy the Sci Fi. We try to go every time now because of the atmosphere - my kids think its "neat" and the milkshakes are great.

The food is O. K. - certainly nothing to write home about but not awful either.

Our family tried Sci-Fi for the first time last year. There are only two must do's for our next trip and it is one of them. We loved it!
The burgers and fries were quite good and we bought milkshakes to go, so we could enjoy them on our walk through the park. Don't miss this especially with kids!

I think the key is to do Sci Fi for lunch as they do not serve the burgers etc... for dinner. We had dinner here Sept 2003 and the food was down right bad. My DMILs pork medallion were cold and gelatinous like they had been sitting around waiting for a taker. And my salmon was overcooked dry and crispy. From what I hear the burgers fries and shakes are great but are only served fresh for lunch so that is our plan when we hit it again-because the atmosphere is NOT TO BE MISSED!
We sat in a car (You automatically get one with a PS) and our 2 DDs sat enthralled with everything that was going on. The campy movie flicks are really cute and sometimes the waiters say the lines right along with the actors in the films. Its alot of fun.

Really no good for dinner? We have a PS there, and don't have time for lunch. Any better dinner experiences?

Sci fi is a must do experience, at least once, so if you dont have time for lunch dont change your plans. Lower your expectations and dont order anything too complicated.
I liked the 50s prime time but some people think the "mom" act by the waiters is irratating. Depends on the person I guess. I thought the food was good. It is meat and potatoes type food nothing gourmet but tastey. Again depends on the person.
I havent tried the other places (Hollywood & Vine) (Brown Derby)
but I have heard very good things about them too.
I recommend TRY EVERYTHING AT LEAST ONCE!! :teeth:

We did the Sci-Fi last Aug. on our first trip to WDW and LOVED it! My boys 4.5 and almost 9 year old thought it was the "funest" place to eat! I got the chili and it was sooooooo good!pirate:

We've done Sci-Fi for the last 3 trips. We have 3 kids (ages 3,7,and almost 9). We've done the burgers (pretty good) and dogs route; we've done the big salads (nothing exciting -- good or bad -- but we enjoyed it enough to go back time #3 so it must have been good enough!) On the 3rd trip, the 3 other adults all ordered dinners; I ordered from the appetizer menu. My dh's shrimp and penne pasta actually looked quite fresh, hot, and tasted good -- tons of it too; BIL and SIL said their food was also good (one had ribs, I think; can't recall what SIL had, but I thought it was fish? Might have been the salmon someone mentioned, but it did not appear to be old or dried out, and I could see it pretty well since she was in the "car seat" in front of me! DD had more Mickey pasta than all 3 of our kids could ever eat together. I ordered some crispy spring rolls and some osrt of salad with bleu cheese crumbles -- very tasty, and left room for a milkshake as dessert! We enjoyed our dinner here, especially the awesome silence of our kids, mesmerized by that "drive-in movie theater" sensation, after walking in from the hot August sun!

I've had pleasant dining experiences at Sci-Fi. Firstly I love this place and I think that everyone has to do it once even if it's just for a shake and fries.

I usually have a shake, fries and a ceasar salad. I've enjoyed the burgers too.

we loved the food at the 50's Prime Time for dinner better that the food at the Sci Fi for dinner. We would do Sci-Fi but only for dinner or if we could get burgers and fries. Someone had a burger for dinner but it was not on our menu so we didn't think to order it. The price at the 50's Prime TIme was better for dinner than dinner at the Sci-Fi.

Best burger EVER made for me by Chef Aerren (she spelled her name strangely). I cannot sing her praises highly enough (especially since I have food allergies and she went out of her way to make me comfortable and to take care of me). Our server, Mike, was a hoot and a half (I even had a photo taken of us with him in our car. He said as driver I had to pay for the whole car!).

I would have never have gone if a friend hadn't recommended the place. Now I can't thank him enough for doing so.

My dd, 10, and I ate there in Dec. We didn't have a great experience. Dd is not a great eater to begin with and she wasn't feeling 100% on top of that. But she took one bite of her hot dog and pronounced it to be terrible. We ordered the onion rings also but they were really greasy and thick, kind of a beer batter type. Probably fine, just not our taste. We like them stringy and crisp. My burger was really overcooked. Almost to the point of being inedible. We found it to be too dark to see anything other than the movie screen and the people right in front of you. It was not very appealing to have the hair of the woman in front of us dangling over the seat, into our food. I would have thought there were other places to sit people, rather than put complete strangers right there, in the same car when there were a ton of open cars. It was right at opening time. We also found it to be very hard to fit our food on the counter area in the car. Very skinny area. I know most of you like it there. Maybe we just hit it wrong.

We really enjoyed our lunch here last month. My DS 11 loved the atmosphere and talks about Sci-Fi more than any of the other places we ate. He likes to fill his glow-in-the-dark cup up with water at night and turn on the glowing 'ice cube' and bring the drink to his night table for the evening.

While we all thought our food was tasty, I found it to be quite heavy. I think I'd order a salad or just an appetizer the next time we go, but of course, I'm not a big eater.

Our waitress was very friendly and 'talked' to the movie screen too! Quite funny.

I cannot give enough praise to SCI FI.

Our family does not do the "deluxe" restaurants or Buffets. Just too expensive for our tastes.

We were originally planning on 50's but it was packed so we went to SCI-FI and I couldnt be happier that we did.

We LOVE the burgers, dogs, ribs, chilli and the deserts are DELISH! We usually get the first 2 rows of the car so we are plenty comfortable. They have cars with a table and chairs too. (not to be confused witht he picnic like table. yuck!) We love the atmosphere and our family decided it was our favorite restaurant on the spot, over Tony's. (:oPersonally we think Tony's has gone downhill this yr, and wont be eating there this trip.) Anyway, we ate there THREE times in Dec. We just love it.
