This just our second year going, so I am still new at this. We are a family of 4 with DS 6 and DS3. I am open to any suggestions on my current plans, FP+ opens this Tuesday:

Arrival day Sept 15
SW airlines lands at 8am going to Pop, do not anticipate room is ready, so plan to head to the parks around 10-11. ADR Rainforest Cafe 5:00p. No other solid plans this day really. Just book whatever FP+ is available, hoping for a less desirable evening FOP (although not expecting it)

Sunday Sept 16
ADR Chef Mickey 5:20 (the boys eat early so this time will be repeated)
HS 8am EMH, try to get SDD or TSM FP for the afternoon, leave around lunch and go to MK. The 3 year old cannot ride much here yet.

Monday Sept 17
ADR Tusker House 10a ROL package
AK EMH at 8 for FOP and Na’vi. Plan to spend the day here (we love animals)

Tuesday Sept 18
ADR Ohana 5:45
MK day and after dinner maybe hop to EPCOT if the kids are up for it

Wednesday Sept 19
ADR BOG 11a and TRex 5:00p
MK day

Thursday Sept 20
ADR Coral Reef 5:15
Epcot day with EMH at 8am

Friday flight at 9:40

We plan to do FP starting around 11 and rope drop the mornings. We know we may have to take afternoon breaks, but we live in Atlanta so we are used to the weather.

Thanks

Cancel your ADRs at Rainforest Cafe and TRex and join the Landry's Select Club instead. It costs $25 to join but you'll get that back as a credit for your first purchase. It gives you priority seating at any Landry's restaurant -- you just check in at the hostess stand and show them your card and you'll be given the next available table. You'll wait for less time than you would if you had an ADR and you'll have the flexibility to show up whenever it's convenient.

T-rex on that MK day is going to be a pain in the butt to get to and back. A waste in my opinion. I would look for something around the monorail loop or in the park. That is, unless you plan to go to Disney Springs for the evening and stay there for the remainder. T-Rex historically gets very mixed reviews as well.

Having both AK and HS at the start of your vacation may lead to a tough time getting those really hard to get FP's. (FOP and SDD) Be prepared to adjust accordingly. It may be later in your stay before you can snag the FP's you want. I think you should be ok if you try for FP's starting at 60 days, 7am EST but just a heads up.

I would not go to Disney Springs for an ADR on your MK day.
Which park are you planning for your arrival day? I would book FP in advance if you are planning to use a park ticket that day.

Agree, cancel TRex. Your boys may enjoy Trails End. The food is consistently good and it’s exciting to ride the boat over from MK, very convenient!

Be sure to check the park hours for your dates. We are also heading there Sept 16-20 so I know there is a Mickey’s Not So scary Halloween party on both Sunday the 16th and Tuesday the 18th with MK closing at 6pm those nights. So you won’t be able to go back to MK after Chef Mickeys unless you have a party ticket. (You may already know that but just thought I’d try to be helpful and point it out ). I would definitely still go to MK on Tuesday morning though because crowd will be very low since it’s a party day

It looks like you plan to go to AK on your arrival day, based on your mention of Rainforest Cafe and FOP. Since you have a second full day planned at AK two days later on Monday, I personally would make my Disney Springs evening for Monday instead of Wednesday night after MK. We are just two adults, but can finish AK in half a day. I think with half a day and 3/4 of another day, that should be enough time for AK. We always need at least 2 days at MK, and with kids those ages, I think you'll find you want/need the most time there. It would also open up your MK evening for you to enjoy the fireworks there, unless its an MNSSHP night.

Disney Springs is a must-do for us, so I think its worthwhile to visit T-Rex while you're there. If you can't find online availability, call the restaurant directly. Being third party operated, they hold back a lot of availability from the system.

Thanks for all the advice. At this point we don’t know if we will go back to any of the parks after dinner, just depends on the 3 year old . The arrival day has no park we have to be at just going to try and see what we can get. Thanks for the tip on the Landry’s card, we will have to look into this. We purposely picked MK for days that had the MNSSH party, my though was people will not want to go since the hours are less and we usually have dinner at 5 anyways, so doesn’t really effect us. What do you guys think of crowds on party days, is this an accurate assumption?

Mk is much less crowded on party days.

Landry’s card also gives you a $25 birthday credit, and also $25 credit for every $250 you spend, if I remember correctly. You have to use the birthday credit during your actual birthday month. But, I’ve never had them ask for a license to confirm your date of birth, so you could always enter in a birthdate with the month you will be in Disney. (Not that I am condoning being untruthful!).

Even without the extra discounts, getting priority seating is enough reason to have the card. Wish I had done it years ago!
