What do you out there with children think of children attending the Horror Makeup Show. My wife and I loved the show when we saw it, but are debating taking our daughters, (9 and 6 1/2 when we go) do to the mild language and innuendo's. We can explain to them about the fake blood and they won't have a problem with that, but I don't know if it is too much of an adult content for them. Anyone with younger children ever take their kids into the show, and did they seem to enjoy it? Likewise, anyone that has seen it think it would be totally inappropriate for this age. I just remember the show being really funny but can't remember whether it was really inappropriate for this age (normally our kids watch Nick or the Disney Channel, and nothing else) Thanks.

I personally think the show is too inappropriate for them. While most things would go over their heads, why risk getting questions like, "Why is that man so lucky if the lady screams like that?" or something. :p

Maybe if I meet up with you, I can take your kids to a GB Show while you and your DW see a HMS. ;)

PrinceEric,

We took our 6 and 8 year old this trip. My 8 year old (almost 9) loved it and I knew he would. M 6 year old had to close her eyes during the 1st movie part, but enjoyed the rest of it. They both enjoyed it so much more because Mom (me) was the one who was asked to give mouth to mouth to the host and the one who was squirted with water repetitively after I refused - LOL. My kids would never get the innuendos, but the first movie part was a bit much for 6 year old and I told her she may want to close her eyes.

DH and I had seen it before also, and when we saw it with the kids, there were a couple parts that we were like - "oops, I don't remember that!!". But, you are always more sensitive when your kids are with you, right? Anyway, we are glad we took them, my 8 year old thought it was the coolest thing ever!

We went last April when my kids were 3, 9, 12, and 15 and they liked it. My 3 yo sat with us in a front seat and then played with some change that I gave him (to keep him quiet and entertained). He ended up being the brunt of some joke since he was ignoring the whole show and we got a good laugh at his expense. I brought him back last month and they also made some joke at his expense, but this time he caught on and liked being the center of attention. As to the gore, he didn't seem to mind and anything else went right over his head. My now 10yo is the most sensitive of my children and will cover his face at anything slightly scary and was fine with the show. There wasn't anything too "adult" in the show, especially if your children watch PG movies. I guess I would consider this show a strong PG or very mild PG13.

I love this show! It's hilarious. Unless if the child is really easily frightened, then it may be a little too intense. There was a time when my kids were afraid of Mickey Mouse. My DD was 8 last summer when we went to this show and wasn't freightened by it. The only thing she was afraid of was being picked to participate because we were sitting in the front row. They didn't pick her to go on stage, but they did single her out at one point during the show. If she could have disappeared, I think she would have.:)

Thanks for the opinions all. Glad you guys had a good trip Tigerlillys mom.

I remember my mom was shocked when her niece took her daughter into the Horror MAkeup Show...my cousin's daughter was a 3rd grader at the time. he daughter also cried because of the gore, but my cousin said it was just because she wanted attention, and she wasn't really scared or whatever. I've seen younger kids scared (like 5 years or so), but not anyone older...at least that I can recall.

However, if you feel enough will fly over your kids' heads, by all means take them...it's a fun show. I took a friend, who is a few months older than me, and even SHE didn't get half the jokes (she was 15 at the time).

The funniest thing happened last February when we went to this show. Due to our FOTL, we got seats right in the front row. The guy with the knife in his chest came in from the entry doors on the left, doing his screaming thing, and proceeded to lean over my son (11 at the time), and scream in his face for about 20 seconds. My son didn't flinch a bit the whole time. When the guy stopped screaming and just stared at him, my son said "I think you need a tic-tac". Not only did the audience members who heard him start laughing, but so did the guy with the knife in his chest! He then shook my son's hand, and continued with his act, as if nothing had happened. Wish I had that on video.

Now that's the funniest thing I've heard in a long time! :hyper: I could see my youngest son doing that!

This is a good show, but I wouldn't take in my children (esp. the 9 year old). The suggestive language doesn't bother me, but they have never seen "horror" films and the film alone would be a shock to them - not to mention the knife sticking out of the chest, cutting the ladies arm and blood squirting everywhere.

I personally think it is way too much for children. The only exception would be if a parent is already letting their kids watch things like Nightmare on Elm St. or the Halloween Horror flicks
 and all the blood and guts wouldn't be a shock.

LOL, no I don't let my kids watch the horror movies, either, but the Horror show didn't bother them at all. For some reason it seems that my kids are fine watching something like this that they know is a demonstration, but get freaked out when they're watching a movie because the get more into the plot and imagine easier that it's real. Seems that it would be the opposite, but I guess they see everyone else laughing and not getting upset in the show and know it's ok. The exception probably would have been my daughter when she was younger, but she was 13 or so when we first went and was ok by then. I've also never seen upset kids when I've been there, but that's only been twice so maybe I was lucky. I'll pay more attention to the reactions of other people when I'm there next month.

My kids loved this show and they have NEVER seen a horror movie or anything close to it. I am very picky about the movies they see and they have only been able to see a few PG movies such as Cody Banks or Cheaper by the Dozen. The movie ET bothered my daughter for weeks, not because she was scared, but because she was so sad and couldn't stop crying. This show is done with many laughs and jokes. If your kids are mature enough to understand that the blood and knives aren't real, they will be fine. I actually think the show is very educational and for kids who like to "know everything" (like my 8 year old), it is great. I would never skip this show due to the horror aspect, but can understand why some parents would skip it due to the more grown up jokes or language.

The kid I saw who was scared...I thought was five, but that was someone else...this one was maybe 7...he was crying uncontrolably...his sister, who loved about 10 or 12 loved the show, and was trying to help her brother enjoy it. The boy would cover his eyes during the flicks and the cutting. Poor kid.

But I *have* seen kids enjoy it, don't get me wrong. My parents told me that one time they teased a young boy during the show. After the woman volunteer started crying while being cut (for real), they decided to have the boy up on stage for the second volunteer part! :D THAT'S rare, let me tell you!
