ok so this is boring - sorry - but where else would I turn?? our frig has died and i'm researching on-line. I like the idea of a bottom-freezer -- opinions?? Anyone have the pull-out drawer freezers?? do you love it? hate it??

thanks guys really!!

I've had one for about two months. I love the top refrig section, still on the fence about the freezer drawer. I think it just takes some getting used to.

Before we bought it, we talked to a ton of people that have this style. Every single person said they loved it.

My Mom has a bottom freezer and she loves it. The things she uses most (milk, butter, etc.) are right there at eye level. It is not a pull out drawer type, it's just a swinging door.

I've had mine for 3 yrs and love it. I'm in the ref. more than freezer so its great to have at eye level. My freezer is not the drawer it's swing door. The top shelf is stationary but the bottom is a pullout.

We've had ours for over 6 years. It's a bit of a hassle to bend down to get things out of the freezer, but it is a whole lot more convenient to get things out of the fridge (which we access a lot more often than the freezer). We love the freezer on the bottom.

I've to a bottom mount freezer and LOVE it - I would never go back!

It really depends. How big is your dog?

Peggy (sorry, I couldn't resist)

We had the Top freezer/Bottom fridge before we remodeled our kitchen, then we went with side-by side (a really big one-29cu. ft). My DW loved our side by side so much that when we moved to the new house a few months ago she made me take the side by side with us, even though we had a brandnew Sub Z bottom freezer (which I love) in the new house.

Here's my take on the whole thing, it all depends on your food storage habits...

1)Top freezer is okay, but badsed on the options/features you can get (or more to the point can't get) with them I don't like them so they are last on the list.

2)Side by side - are very feature rich (i.e. beverage center/ice service in the doors, etc.), but they usually (unless you get a monster sixed one) can't hold big trays of food if you have any inclination to having a big party and need that kind of space. They are usuall a 1/3-2/3 split nowadays too. I like this most.

3)Bottom freezers/top refrig. - are very "comfortable" to use...think about how much more often you go to the fridge for something vs. the freezer it just make sense to not have to bend down to get something out of the fruit/veggie drawer since you will likely go there more often than the times you will go to the freezer. Alot of times though - especially with built-ins these don't have a great deal of depth. So they are # 2 on the list.

I work full time so I tend to use a lot of convenience foods, and we eat out a lot. We had a bottom freezer before we remodeled. Mostly I found myself going to the freezer for ice and I hated stooping to do that. We have a side by side now which I love.

I had a top freezer/bottom fridge, which was fine. Then we needed a new fridge and I stupidly let mey DH talk me into a side-by-side and I HATE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can wait till the darn thing dies!!!!
The next fridge I get will be a bottom freezer/top fridge type, no discussion, no argument.

you guys are the BESTEST!! thanks so much for all the info and input! we called the repairman (to soothe DH) and he suggested to unplug our frig and let it sit for THREE DAYS!!!! to rule out a frost-build up in the innerds of the frig which we wouldn't be able to see. Ok - it's like what 6 days until our christmas eve family gathering and i'm supposed to go frig-less??? so for now i'm living from the garage and deck (thank goodness for nature's chilling) and we'll see how long I can hold out!!!

i'm becoming more and more convinced that bottom-freezer is the bomb!

I always had a top freezer, and while it was convenient, stuff got lost in the fridge part, especially on the bottom shelves. When ours went kaput, we decided to look at the bottom freezer. And we settled on a drawer type. I love it. The only thing I don't like is that you have to almost stand on your head to get ice cubes out of the trays, but in the summer when we use more, I put them in a bag and leave it in the drawer so I can reach it better. But as far as the fridge part, we have glass shelves and you can see everything much better, and it is at eye level, so no more unidentifiable stuff in bowls, etc. (at least not as often !)

I just bought a bottom freezer frig...my current one is on the way out...16 years pretty good life...any how I feel in love with this bottom freezer that sears makes...

bottom freezer

I can't wait until after my trip when it is delivered..

We bought our bottom fridge about 6 years ago. It took me about a month to get over my perceived 'goofiness' of the setup, and now I love love LOVE it. SO convenient.

Back when we bought ours, the only company making them was Amana (who manufactured for other people as well, including Sears) not sure if this is the case any more, but we have been very happy with ours.

THANK YOU for this! I'm trying to research the fridge/freezer thing so I'm ready when this one dies (bought it with the house)...

The way our fridge sits, the door hits the countertop across from it if you try to fully open it. I wasn't convinced that I wanted a side-by-side, but this would be WONDERFUL....the door wouldn't hit AND I'd have room for pizza boxes!

You'll have to let us know how it works once you've gotten it!

zurgswife and ohiominnie - now I love that one too! that is awesome but I need one quick-like remember!! my food is on my deck as I type!! he he he he. the temps are rising this week and my family is all coming for Christmas Eve dinner - so a special order frig probably won't do! but I LOVE that model! how cool is that.

I'm looking at an Amana easy-reach and so far that's the only bottom-freezer I found with a factory installed ice maker. Tomorrow is the big day. We are plugging the old one in first thing in the morning (sorry Mr. Repairman but i just CAN'T wait three whole days!!) and making our decision!

We practically grew up with one. My mom got her first one back about 1973 or 1974. As mentioned before, Amana was the only company that made them at that time. She replaced it after about 20 years - and I think it was a "harvest gold" issue more than the fridge failing. She replaced it with basically the same thing - except in almond. They have since sold that house, and now have their 3rd Amana bottom freezer fridge.

I also have an Amana - bottom freezer. Nothing else makes sense to me.

We bought a new one last Christmas. It is wonderful. I also have the pull out and sliding drawers. I love that i can see everything at a glance. My only drawback is having to do with the kids. The novelty still has not worn off for my preschoolers. Every day they raid all the ice and stick it down each others shirts and pants. I may sound like I am joking but truly I am not. It is a royal pain in the fanny. So the fridge I love. I guess it's the kids that are the problem.:hyper:
