Opinions of sleeper sofa at SSR

Ok, so during our trip last month we stayed in a 2BDR at SSR. My DS slept on the sleeper sofa, or should I say slept on the sofa?!? This fold out sofa has no mattress, just a thin pad that has three very uncomfortable sections. While he didn't complain, and said that he was glad to be at WDW, we thought that this was something to alert member services about when we returned home.

When we got home, I sent an email to MS and received a form email acknowledging my concern. Two days later, I received an email stating that this had been referred to the resort for review and that they were unaware that the sleeper sofa's had no mattress. Two days after that, I had a voice mail message from the resort that said that they noted my concern and that they would look into it.

So, no one will flame me, this is all I wanted was for them to acknowledge that it was an issue. I didn't expect any compensation as we still enjoyed our trip. I would reconsider choosing SSR for a 2BDR if we needed more sleeping areas and maybe move to AKL or one of the other resorts with the sleeping chair.

We have stayed in the GV at SSR before and their sleeper sofa has a mattress, so this is what I thought we would get in the 2BDR. I did wonder if anyone else had an issue with the sofa's in the 2BDR villas.

Thanks for your input!

This is the same type of sleeper sofa you find at OKW and they are not that comfortable. The foam pad is supposed to be memory foam, but it is not good for sleeping. I know BCV and BWV don't have this type, but I think most of the resorts now have this type of sleeper sofa. If it flips open from the back, it has a better mattress. If it is the platform type, it's like you said.

What you had was standard issue in most of the resorts.

Just got back from our first vacation as DVC members. Since I inserted myself in my daughters' spring break trip, I took the sofa bed at SSR. While I wouldn't say it was the most comfortable, I never slept better. Could be the whole exhaustion thing but it worked. The main problem we had was the room was cold. We tried turning up the heat but ended up getting the air conditioner. We would open the patio door in the morning to let the warmth in.

DH and I have slept on the sleeper sofa in a 1 bedroom at SSR. It didn't have a mattress, but it was very comfortable. It was a little low, so it took some effort to get out of.

I hate sleeper sofas. I think this is the biggest negative of DVC. I would give up a sofa any day for a real bed. Need more resorts with 2 real beds… queen preferably… and no sofa… in studios!

Have to agree that the sleeper sofas in SSR studio and one bedrooms leave much to be desired. They are the same as the 2 bedroom. I have slept on the sleeper sofas at SSR, AKV, BLT and BWV and SSR are by far the most uncomfortable to sleep on and difficult to convert. The one I slept on 2 weeks ago was on wheels and moved across the room every night when I pulled it out, frustrating to say the least. Will be sleeping on sofa bed at GCV in 3 months, hope those are better!

I agree that the sleeper sofa in the Studio (or second bedroom of a 2-Bdrm lockoff) is surprisingly uncomfortable. I was more comfortable on the day bed in the Yacht Club. I'm not that picky, but I could only take one night on that sleeper sofa.

I agree whole heartedly! I wish there was a one bedroom with 2 queens instead of the king bed. Sofa beds at disney are much better than any other hotel we have stayed at but it's still a sofa bed.

We had the same issue with the sleeper sofa @ AKL, very uncomfortable with the bars hitting you in the wrong places. When talking to a manager 2 weeks ago mentioned the same thing to him to which he replied " Oh the sleeper sofas & chairs are not meant for anyone weighing more than 100-150 pounds, but we have egg crate mattresses to use over them just ask for 1or 2 when you check in. a good thing to know we will try it on our next trip in sept.:cool1:

I agree :(! We slept on the sleeper sofa at OKW last week (after the renovations, and it was very uncomfortable. We woke up with sore necks and backs.

Not sure what was wrong with the sofa bed in the 2 bedroom, but the sofas at SSR are all the same.

First come, first serve on those and they have very few.

For an adult there is no such thing in my opinion as a comfortable sofa sleeper.

I have slept on sleeper sofas at BWV,BCV, and SSR. The ones at BWV and BCV were just fine as sleeper sofas go, and I didn't have trouble sleeping on them. But the one at SSR was really uncomfortable. After the first 2 nights, I wound up not even opening it up, but just throwing a sheet down on the sofa itself and sleeping on that. At least then I could sleep.

I decided that I won't stay at SSR again if anyone in the party would need to sleep on the sleeper sofa. It's a shame too, because I really like SSR.

My 12-year old son prefers an air mattress over the sleeper sofa. Is there room for a "twin-size" air matress in a studio room? We could prop it against the wall during the day and not have to worry with the sofa.

You could easily fit a twin size air mattress in most studio rooms. I am trying to think if a queen size air mattress would fit instead.
