Any opinions on the BBQ at Ft. Wilderness? Do they still have it?

Yep, they still have it, it's about 50/50 when it comes to the opinions. Seems like all the kids seem to love it, parents aren't normally as excited as with the Hoop Dee Doo and the like.

Oh, since you're new, I'll also give you a great tip! There is a search button near the top of the forum, allows you to search per forum or all of the forums. If you type in Mickey's BBQ or BBQ or along those lines, you should find some threads from the past where people are talking about reviews.

Not that anyone cares if you ask, it's just another tool you can use!

I didnt like it. The idea was great and the food was good but it ended up being not much more than waiting in line to get character autographs. I was expecting dancing with the characters and more interaction other than autographs and that didnt happen.

Just FYI -- it's offered on Thursdays and Saturdays. :)

It wasn't our favorite thing. There is a country band that plays on stage and Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, and Chip & Dale come out and dance with the kids. The food wasn't nearly as good as the Hoop Dee Doo. They had hamburgers and hot dogs, corn on the cob, baked beans and coleslaw. There were frozen indivually wrapped ice cream treats for dessert but people let their kids stand there with it open constantly and they were pretty melted by the time we got there. They had drinks (lemonade, iced tea and water) in big containers with spouts and it was all self serve. It got pretty messy over there, and around the buffet area. I think if parents had helped the kids instead of the kids serving themselves it would have been much cleaner. They had a guy do some lasso tricks which was neat. And all the characters come around and sign autographs and pose for pictures. My older two kids (10,13) were bored and ready to leave as soon as we were done eating so we didn't stick around for the whole thing.

I think part of our problem was we didn't realize we needed to get there 1/2 hour early so when we among the last to get in and our seats were on the very outside of the pavillion and it was hard to see anything. The kids weren't thrilled with where we had to sit and it did taint the event for us I think. We had also already been to the Hoop Dee Doo and that spoiled us a bit. The food at the HDD was our favorite on the whole trip !!

They changed the way they do it. The characters are all on the Dance Floor except for the band breaks they take a break also. If you are an adult and want pictures be ready to shove your way on the dance floor to get a pic with characters. That is what I had to do. When we were leaving the Bar-B-Q a lady was telling a CM that it was crazy, it was her birthday and she came to the Bar-B-Q to get to see Mickey (her favorite) and could not get close. The CM went and got Mickey for her and she got her picture.

We did it last year and loved it. We are doing it again in 4 weeks. All the characters walked around to each table and the kids and I all danced with them through out. Plan on sitting up front this time. Food was good, wasn't expecting more then bbq. Beer was wet and cold, drank my moneys worth and had a blast.

Do they have ribs, brisket, ect. or just burgers & dogs?

Here is the Menu for Mickey's Bar-B-Q

Tossed Garden Salad

Fresh Herb Potatos Salad
Creamy Cole Slaw, Cornbread

Smoked BBQ Chicken

Corn on the Cob

Watermelon
Ice Cream Bars
Itzadadoozie Bars

We have gone to the Mickey's BBBQ a couple of times but didn't on our last trip. Our two DDs (11 & 12) didn't really enjoy it but our DS(8) really liked the dancing and general mayhem. The buffet had similar offerings as the HDDR (chicken , ribs, etc.) if I recall correctly but I didn't think the food was as good. They served cake for dessert and I thought it tasted like sawdust:confused: I can't remember the cost but I think it was comparable to the other dinner shows. If I could choose only one dinner show it wouldn't be the Backyard BBQ.

The characters did not walk around to the tables. They were only on the dance floor. I was very disappointed in this. You had to fight the crowd on the dance floor to get to the characters.

Well when they did it, it appears they did walk around to all the tables. I've heard it both ways, of them walking around to the tables, and how you describe it, where they are just on the dance floor.

I'm not sure if this is something they change depending on different things (maybe crowd level, weather, etc...)?

I can tell you this the food from trails end is the same as the hoop-de-do and the BBQ or at least it was!!!!!!!!!!!!

I need some fried chicken and some strawberry shortcake please.

Yummmmmmmmm.

No Sangria though, bleh.

They walked around when we were there....just like they do at Crystal Palace. There was a CM with them guiding them in a pattern around the room and by the end of the event all of them made it all the way around the room. They didn't let you get up and go find them, you had to wait until they made it around to you. It's much better that way, IMO, than having to wait it a big line.

Yea, and you just went recently Shannone, which is why I think it probably is something that they change based on various factors.

Sounds like a luck of the draw thing to me :)

Could be. I did think the character costume were really cute. I love the picture I have of the kids with Minnie in her western wear.

My family is not aggressive when it comes to getting time with characters, been there so many times we sometimes just wave and walk past. The BBQ seems the most friendly to meet the characters. I would think that it may be as Colson says, depending on crowd, time of year, etc. The food is from the same kitchen as TE and Hoop. By the way, did I mention the beer and wine before??????
