Opinions about Whispering Canyon Cafe

We ate there on Dec 18th for lunch. It was a blast and the food was really good. We had the all you can eat skillet- all very good esp the chicken!!! Price is good too. Higgins was our waiter and he was awesome. We even ran the Pony Express with the stick ponies. A great place to go and have a fun meal!!!!

Wow, its funny to see my name posted!! Yes, I am still at WCC.

I hope you'll be there on April 29th. I'm definitely asking for you.....Your name has come up too much on these threads not to. :goodvibes

My suggestion would be to walk by Whispering Canyon--stop a miniute and watch all the "antics"--then eat at a good restaurant, Artist Point.

Hi Suzannews: Would like to go to wc and try the food, is there a place to sit to just watch most of the antics, and relax Do we mention this before being seated?

Thanks,

Deb.

We had breakfast there on Dec. 3 with a party of 12. Almost all of the adult s ordered the all you can eat skillet, and I thought the food was very good. They brought us two skillets and it did take a while to get more when we asked for a second skillet. My BIL (who isn't crazy about such restaurants) kept making comments like "Maybe they should spend more time making our food and less time playing games!", but that's just him.

I would definitely go back.

These "skillets"... is all the food on the same one? My kids won't eat things touching. It sounds like a hoot... I haven't heard of it at all until now. What is the catsup thing?

WE had a blast. My sister was celebrating her 50th and we had "the waitress" who did it up right. She was a hoot and caused alot of ruckess at the table which all the kids loved. Food was OK but we went for the fun. Our birthday cake we ordered for her was awesome. Would I make a special trip to the lodge if not staying there. Probably not. We went our first night for the celebration and were staying at WL. It is the kind of thing you have to try one time. It is a great choice with kids of all ages.

We enjoyed our dinner there last Saturday although I was a bit disappointed that we were seated away from the main restaurant, more on a raised part of the lobby that our server, Dave, called the library... Dave was friendly enough, getting into things a bit with the napkin and straw throwing, and making fun of BiL's ability to hold his milkshakes, although he didn't bite when my wifw ordered pepsi... I had the skillet and enjoyed everything... everyone else seemed to eat what they had... DD5 and DNiece2 got to ride the ponies, and when one of the waitresses came in asking for ketchup DW replied that we had ketchup over here. Her face when the waitress yelled back "Well bring it!" was an absolute picture!!

We covered a wide range of the spectrum of dining levels on our stay, and this was definitely one of the meals I'd like to do again next time.

I didn't warn DBF about the antics when we went. Napkins were thrown on the table. DBF started picking them up to make a pile (thinking the waiter had dropped them). He stopped when the waiter threw a pile of straws down next and told us no spitballs. The look on DBF's face was priceless! He was so confused. I couldn't stop laughing. He kept asking me what kind of place is this? (I should note, he is on the quiet side.) Then a table asked for ketchup. There was shock in DBF's eyes as 20 bottles of ketchup were brought to that table. He turned to me and said I'm not asking for nothing tonight....I laughed....he turned his head back to me quickly and said you aren't either! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

We really enjoyed ourselves. Our waiter was a lot of fun. We are going back again this year.

I though the food was very good, but I really didn't care much for the "entertainment". It was just a bit much, and I don't want to be abused and embarrassed for entertainment.

Does anyne know the BEST/Fastest way to get from ASSports to Whispering Canyon? We will not have a car and would need to rely on Disney transportation.....:confused3

Have reservations - never been there before, not sure what's the deal with straws, pony racing and ketchup. Can someone clue me in so I can be in the know......will keep knowledge from my 2 kids and wife. Will this be a good restaurant for a 3 and 5 year old?

Thanks - -

Called to see if there were last minute cancellations or anything to get into a Character meal next week, but none. The gal on the Disney Dining line suggested Whispering Canyon. Is it fun, worth the effort? Or is it available because its not that good?

I think this is a place that people either love or hate-not alot of in between. Kind of like 50's diner. You have to WANT this kind of entertainment, which we love. We were there in May with me, DH, DMIL, and our boys who were 5 and 21 months at the time. The 5 yr old loved it, we got the "ketchup", did the pony races. Had a blast. We weren't in the main dining room but in the first little area off of it, but our waiter was great! The table next to us had an older couple who obviously weren't there for the entertainment. Kept giving my kids dirty looks and scooting their chairs away from our table (we had to wait a little but for our check so the kids were getting a bit restless). So you have to be in the mood for some sillyness or you won't like it. We loved the food, too, except for the cowboy beans!

I loved it ,DH, not so much. I tend to like silly stuff. Grandson was 5 and had fun. At first he was a bit shy. It is loud and crazy, at times. I think that much less than 4 or 5 may be too young to enjoy the antics.;) (And some 50+ also-ie my DH:rolleyes1 )
By the way, I loved the food, but for some it is hard to enjoy it when there is so much activity.

Got Ketchup?!

We were there for the first time last Aug. and the food was good, the service was good, and my large diet coke was large. We did have a good time even though it was more from watching others than what happened at our table. This was fine with me since I embarrass easily. My ds however loved it. We had CM planned for his birthday dinner in Feb and he asked to change it to WCC. He woke up one morning and said he had a dream about the fun place with the building things. After mainly questions I figured out it was WCC and the Lincoln logs. I asked if he wanted this place instead of dinner with Mickey Mouse and he said yes. He wants to go to the place with the logs.

We went to the WCC for lunch on 11/9/2008... If you're a little afraid of the "antics" then, maybe lunch would be the best time to go. There were a few CM's that were really having fun in there, but most were fairly normal.

Our table was in the back corner of the restaurant looking over the lobby. Our waitress was "Darling Deb". I don't think she would be as fun with the kids, but she was fine me and my wife. She played the sort of rude, patronizing waitress, but in good humor... not in a mean way. She did the straw and the napkin "toss" on the table. We joked with her, because half of the straws went over the table and out into the lobby area -- said that they're not responsible for cleaning anything into the lobby. The waitress beside us, I did not catch her name, was a younger blonde woman. She was loud and fun, and really had the kids in her area having a good time.

We both got the lunch Skillet. It was very good. Ribs and chicken were good, I really liked the sausage. The original plate of food was plenty... Even though it was "all you can eat", we did not ask for any other food.

If you go in there expecting a "normal" restaurant, you may be dissapointed. But, if you go in expecting to have some sort of "show" and have fun with whatever happens, then this is a great place to eat.

Hi,
We have gone i think 3 times on 3 different trips and loved the food every time...noise level and antics varied. To their credit, when my youngest was 14 months we needed ketchup and I had said to the waitress that if she yelled for ketchup my daughter would cry and she respected that. I thought it was really nice. I would warn that if you don't have super assertive kids and go at a crowded time then you may want to help them when it's time for the horse race..my girls, age 6 (twins) are not assertive and got in there too late to get a horse and they ran out...otherwise, we love it there and make a point of going every trip.
hth,
sss

We ate dinner here last week. I had been there before and not all that thrilled. We only went this last time because we were staying at VWL and too tired and hungry to venture very far. I find it horribly overpriced for mediocre food. I had the $19 pasta, which was not all that good. My friend had the $20 chicken and could barely eat it. She thought it was horrible (I didnt taste it). Another friend went "off the menu" & ordered a pulled pork sandwich, which normally comes with the all-u-can-eat. She thought it was just ok. The kids chicken strips were unbreaded and there were very few. They came with a pasta/marinara sauce rather than mac n cheese. So the kids were not happy either. The ketchup stuff was fun, but hardly worth the price we paid since the food was so bad. Our waiter was funny and cheerful, but something happened at some point and our entrees were seriously delayed. We never did get an explanation, but it was almost like we had been forgotten for quite awhile. I saw the waiter look at us from across the room about 45 minutes after ordering and I saw the "oh crap" look in his eyes. A few minutes later, another waiter brought out our entrees, 2 of which were wrong.

I don't think we'll be returning here again, no matter how tired we are.
