My family has a trip planned the first week of June. It will be dh our 8 year old, a 1 year old and me. We've been 3 other times so we feel pretty comfortable. I'm starting to get nervous about taking the baby though. We are getting there early, but not too early so he doesn't have to be in the sun. We have fast passes and I know we will be doing a lot of indoor rides. Plus taking a mid day break. But I'm still nervous about him getting too hot , overwhelmed or sick being around tons of people. I guess I'm askin for advice from people who have gone in the summer with one this age. Tell me the good and bad. We still have time to cancel trip and 8 year old had no clue. Thsnks

It sounds like you have a good plan between Fast Passes and indoor attractions. When my kiddos were little we took advantage of the Child Care Center often. It's a great place to relax for a few, watch cartoons, have a snack. (I always took sanitizing wipes and wiped down *everything*) We also headed back to the hotel in the afternoon for naps or swimming. I think it's totally doable.

I see it all the time, I know I'm an outsider looking in but as a CM I literally see children of all ages. Parents seem to get great use out of the stroller fans. Some of the indoor attractions are a great way to escape the heat. I know the HM can be scary for some but parents have had great success with it. Its 9 minutes out of the sun in AC with a lot to look at

I think you will be fine if you stay tuned into your children and read their cues ... we all know when our kids have had enough. We run into problems when we don't pay attention to those cues and push them "just a little longer". Luckily there are two adults so you (or dad) can tend to the needs of the little one while not depriving your 8 year old from anything he or she really wants to do. We took our daughter to WDW every August for years and she did well as long as we didn't push it.

I recommend Frog Togs in addition to stroller fans.

Google Frog Togs, or really anything similar, there are products on the market very close. They're basically towels you get wet, wring out the water, and they stay cool.... Lay it across the back of the neck and it really does keep your body temp down. When they start to dry, or get warm, you just re-wet them and they're cool all over again. I know it might be a tough task to get a toddler to keep one on, but after a time or two, and they feel so nice, I think it would be forgotten about.

Also, fill a sippy cup with water, freeze it, and within a short time of being in the park, it will be melting and they'll have a refreshing, cold, cup of water to stay hydrated.

On last tip..... Keep a bucket style hat on them. There's a Cool Max brand....you completely soak it in water, wring it out, and then put it on them....keeps them cool and still blocks the Rays. I've seen them sold in Bed, Bath, and Beyond stores, and at Columbia and North Face stores.
