Opinion on School Calendar - Labor Day 2009

Ugh...I forgot about that! The 8/15 one is so much more $$$$...I looked at that one, too. Hmmm...perhaps our families should just splurge for a CAT2 or 1 together!!!

OR we should combine our DVC pts for a GV in August 09!!!!

This is in PA and it is a private school.

I am not looking for a definite answer from anyone, just opinions for those with children or who work in education.

I think it depends on what part of the country you are in. Here, usually they start after labor day. Although my sister's kids go to charter school and they start before labor day. We go to public and our school district always starts the Wed. after Laor day.

I think it would be less stressful for a young child to miss a week during the school year, than to miss what could be the first days of school. I would stay with the October cruise.

Ok, so I'm new to this. My daughter will be starting preschool this coming year and they start classes the day after Labor Day -- Tuesday September 2nd.

Has anyone looked at the calendar for 2009 and realized that Labor Day is VERY LATE? In your experience, do you think the districts will begin school the week before Labor Day in 2009 on September 1st or wait until after Labor Day starting classes on September 8th?

It seems kind of late to me.
What are your thoughts?

If you ask your child's preschool, they may actually already have the 2009 calendar. Our schools have their dates set up years in advance on things like start dates, winter breaks and spring breaks.

I called and asked and they do not.

Right now I think we're sticking with October -- similar reasoning to what Bobbi has said.
